*burp*

Cabernet infused cheese spread and crispy flatbreads today.

We arrived at Fleming's and checked our coats. Now, I have been to a few very high end restaurants and have never encountered this: The woman that seated us offered us black napkins because our pants were black.

Our dinner for four started off with two wine flights (a red and a white sampler of three wines each). The men had beer. We settled on a bottle of Wente Zinfandel from the Livermore, CA region. They had champagne and cabernet infused cheese spreads for snacking. We started to feel a bit neglected by waitstaff, as our drinks took a long time to get there. Wines: $12 or so for flights. $40 for bottle. Beer????

For appetizers, we ordered the salmon bruschetta and crab cakes. The bruschetta was amazing. The crab cakes were average. I had better last week at a brewpub. Should've listened to HD. :-) Appetizers were about $12 each for reasonably sized servings (not large, but not tiny). The lobster tempura was closer to $20 and I was outvoted.

From there on out, the staff was a little more attentive. Chris had the blue cheese encrusted strip. I had the seared, rare tuna, my sister had a surf & turf like combo, and my BIL had a bone in ribeye. Chris's steak was AMAZING. My tuna was good, but needed more of the sherry vinegarette on the plate, as rare tuna isn't "juicy" per se. Steaks and seafood were $25-35 (no sides).

For sides we had the mashed potatoes with cheddar and jalepenos, the mashed potatoes with gorgonzola and the tomato, mozz & basil salad. The veggie medly was what I wanted, but it was $25. Yikes! Other sides were around $8-10. They came served family style, which was cool. And we got chilled forks for the salad. :-)

For dessert we all shared the chocolate mousse cake and the peach cobbler. The peach cobbler was very average. The cake was divine. I never saw the dessert prices, but given our total, I'm guessing around $8-$12 each.

Total bill for four: $307.

Would I go again?

For the blue cheese steak and fish (with extra vinegarette)? yes. For some appetizers? Yes. For the Fleming's potatoes? Yes.

For dessert? No. For a plain steak or plain seafood? No. For drinks? No.

I could probably do a dinner for two with one appetizer, one drink each, one steak, one fish and one side for around $100 for a special occassion and be very happy.

Sounds tasty. Also sounds like a good place to have a gift certificate for.

Sounds like a great evening with plenty of good food despite a couple of disappointments.

Next time, get the lobster tempura! :)

The prices are very reasonable! Not at all that much! DH and I have gone out with a $100 GC and the total has come to $280. But we got the lobstah and prime rib.

I think you got a very good deal!

Although why was the vegetable side so much?

Next time wear orange pants.

I dislike spending more than $75 each on a dinner. It just seems unnecessary. But I'm glad you had a good time!

This place sounds way too fancy for me. I hope I don't make a fool out of myself. Heh.

$25 for vegetables? That's ridiculous!

I had a gluttonous night last night, too. There went my diet! *burp*

I don't like napkins that are the same color as my pants or skirt. I may accidentally use my pants or skirt instead of the napkin.

Would you go back for the black napkins? I would.

I think the prices sounded reasonable, too, considering that it's a fancy steakhouse. Also considering that the wine/beer alone was around $80. Was the $307 before or after tax/tip?

The blue cheese strip steak sounds delicious. The cheddar/jalapeno mashed potatoes do, too. I love mashed potatoes with clever mix-ins.

Great review! I'm really hungry now.

*giggle* I might go back for the black napkins. The total was pre-tip.

I'm considering an after work trip sometime for wine flights and lobster tempura.

LOL at Swami. I had never encountered this before either until our last trip to Ruth's Chris. I actually received a white napkin and someone came and took it and gave me the appropriate black one. That was quite funny.

Sounds like fun. Good place for a gift certificate. I love blue cheese encrusted filet.

I ate at two nice places this weekend. Update to come.

Sounds delicious and I am giggling about the napkins. I've never been to a restaurant with color coordinated napkins.

I would have to have a very large gift certificate to enjoy food with those kind of prices. The $100 meal sounds about right for me. While I'm not cheap, I'm not big on spending a fortune on fine dining. My taste buds are very simple. Quite possibly even Redneck tastebuds. *grin*

The fact the neither Dave or I drink wine would save us. Neither of us are much for dessert either for that matter.

I think I'd be quite happy eating there, although the prices are kind of pre-post-employment for us. :-)

I'd really like to know just which veggies came in that $25 mixed veggie side.

(Wonder if it's that much 'cause so many vegetarians order it as their entree.? Better be damned good, though, nmw.)
