Extra bonus post (if you want cheese products, look at the post below).
Have you seen the ads for the SGK Breast Cancer Foundation 3 day walk?
I was excited about the prospect of this, and then saw you must raise $2200 to participate. *gulp* Then I thought, "Hm. I can do that." Then I thought, "I need someone to do this with me."

Anybody willing to take this crazy leap? There's a big list of major cities, and I'm willing to travel.

What if you don't raise the $2200?
I don't think you can participate then. At first, I was thinking $2200 sounds hard to raise, but I bet I could get a lot of my coworkers and family to do at least $50. I'm lucky in that I work at a School of Nursing....lots of benevolent peeps here. And my family has been really affected by breast cancer, so that would also help my chances of getting family and friends of family to donate.
I'd love to join you so I can have my first peep meet. Just two problems:
1. The money thing
2. The walking thing
*snort* Perhaps a meet over coffee would be a better option, Lasann :-)
I'm thinking this would be something I would like to do but I fear committing to it. Plus I don't think I could raise that much money. I don't know 44 people that would be willing to donate $50. Or 220 people willing to donate $10.
Plus I'd have to discuss it with my husband because of the being away for three days.
Consdier it Glowie. Talk to some peeps. I think I could get some workplaces around town to donate larger chunks of money. The website has some good support for fundraising.
*smooch* for at least considering it.
Kim, I thought about joining the Run To End Stroke thing last year. They train for marathons in either San Diego or Hawaii. You had to raise somewhere around $5,000 so I opted out. I'm tired of raising money. I've had to do so much fundraising for my kids - school, Girl Scouts, baton, softball, you name it.
Maybe PRE will donate to you Glow.
My girlfriend did this and was sucessful. I think she did other things to raise money too- she had a bakesale and she went to a restaurant and talked them in to sponsoring her. She got all of her friends to go eat there and the restaurant gave her money. She also auctioned off an IPOD. It rained the entire first day of her walk, so she said the first night in the tent it was pretty miserable. But she was by herself and it let her bond with the other ladies.
*hops* Boo said she's game. Now we need to see who else will do it with us and where in the heck we'll do it!
OMH, I so wanted to do it this year but saw the $2200. There is NO way I can get that kind of money.
Is it each individual that has to raise $2200 or a group?
Actually, it really pisses me off that it's $2200. I know it makes peeps try harder to be committed to the thing but wow, there's just no way I can get money like that. And, how much of the $2200 goes to research. I'm sure a huge chunk of it is spent on the 3-day events.
Let me know if you do it Kim and Boo, I'll definitely donate to you both.
I've seen websites for various organzations (Diabetes is one) where the person can have friends or relatives of friends and relatives donate. Your name is on there and they donate under your name. You might get some people who are acquaintances to donate that way. That's one way that I donated to my cousin's grandchild who I don't even know, for his walk for Diabetes research.
I have heard this is a very empowering, amazing event. Also, I seem to remember Emydi (from our online playground) did a walk for cause event and Ayak let her post a request for donation on OT.
This is one charitable cause my husband does not like to donate to- not because he is stingy but because after some research he discovered a good portion of that $2,200 goes to overhead and this is against his philosophy but with that said, if you do the race, we will send a donation your way. The race does generate a lot of awarenesss and that is alwyas a good thing!
I checked out the website and it looks like it would be a great time. I'm just not sure that I could get the time off work to go somewhere and I'm also not sure about the $2200. The problem is that with something like this, it would be not just me but Michelle too. And that would mean a combined $4400. Since we have all the same circle of friends (with a few exceptions) I don't think we could raise that kind of money.
Count me out. Besides that whole three-days-of-walking stuff, if I am going to raise money it will be for autism research. That's my "thing."
Looks like it's me and Kim. I told dh last night. He didn't object, but I think he would like to come along for non-walking stuff.
Our nephew lives in ChiTown, and that might be closer to us both and cheaper in terms of airfare and stuff. I don't think we would stay with nephew.
I can't do September, but I'm pretty open any other time.
Raising money for cancer research is an excellent idea.
Mr Bob just finished writing part of a grant application to start feeding some of the compounds he works with to mice (instead of cells)
If you want, you can send the money directly to me. I'll start a "Buy Mr Bob a burritto for lunch and dinner" fund, so he never needs to come home.
Wait. That might not be such a good idea.
WTF? I put a comment in and now it's gone...
OK whatever...WHAT I SAID WAS:
If you are willing to do the West Coast, I'd be willing to do this with you.
I can raise the $2200 for research, but not for the plane ticket. ;-)
