Have some calcium rich cheedar and swiss today.
Tell me about your teeth brushing habits. Do you run the water while you brush? Use a cup, swish and rinse? Floss & mouthwash every time? Use lots of toothpaste or a little? You get my drift.

I used to run the wtaer while I brushed until California went through a drought. Ever since, I just wet the brush and then turn off the water. I cup my hand when I am done so that I can fill it with water and swish&rinse. I floss when I feel something stuck between my teeth. Otherwise I am not a very good flosser. I do use mouthwash. I use enough toothpaste to cover the bristles. I only use a soft brush but it doesn't matter if it is a full or compact head. I make sure to brush for a minimum of 3 minutes. On the weekends I use the little tablets that the dentist gives me. You chew on them and then rinse and then it shows you where there is plaque and where you need to concentrate on brushing.
I make Eric turn off the water when he brushes. He hates that, but I hate wasting water more.
My flossing habits are abysmal. Normally I brush twice a day and use mouthwash. I only floss when Carey flosses. :D
Like Carey, I wet the brush then turn the water off. I try to use the electric toothbrush as often as possible because I can time my brushing better. Gives a better clean also. I always cover the brush with toothpaste for each half of my mouth. (The electric brush has a small brush area). I rarely use mouth wash and again, like Carey, only floss when something is stuck in my teeth. Or, I'll floss for about a month after being to the dentist. Then I taper off.
The hot water tap in the master bath in the new home doesn't work so well so I end up having to let it run until it gets warm because my teeth are sensitive and I can't rinse my mouth with cold water.
Yeah, I basically do what Carey said, except I don't use mouthwash all the time and I don't have any cool plaque tablets.
I love my plaque tablets. I think they are cool.
I used to love the taste and feel of the plaque tablets. :)
I brush with the water off, use lots of paste, and usually the toothpaste runs out of my mouth, down my arm. It's kinda messy. If I am brushing in public, I make an effort to appear neater.
I brush a couple times a day and floss pretty much every day. I use mouthwash every time I go the the racquet club because it's in a cool dispenser and I like the little cups.
PS - It's not a snobby, exclusive racquet club. :)
See, this fascinates me. These things are rarely spoken of.
Me? I brush twice a day. I use a small line of toothpaste on the wet brush. I turn the water off while brushing. When finished, I rinse my brush, sweep through the mouth, rinse brush again and repeat. I guess I don't need a big mouth of water since I don't use as much toothpaste.
I floss once or twice/week and rarely use mouthwash. I hate mint, so I use lemon or orange toothpaste and the orange listerine mouthwash. Waxed, unflavored floss.
Chris: He fills a cup of water, dips toothbrush in, applies a generous amount of toothpaste and brushes away. He often gets distracted by something on his face and just stops. At the end, he drinks the water from the cup, swishes and spits. I'm most intrigued by his pre-brush dip in the cup. I'm most grossed out by his foamy mouth from over toothpasting.
The dipping kind of freaks me out.
I've started using my DH's toothpaste which is a combination of paste & gel so it ends up getting really foamy. I'm used to using just gel. I've seen DH brush his teeth. I definitely get more foamy LOL.
I want a mouthwash dispenser like MTWs club. It sounds cool.
I really hate brushing my teeth at my BIL's place. They have really old bathroom faucets. One separate spout for hot and one separate spout for cold. Because of my sensitive teeth, I can't rinse because the water's too hot or too cold. I used to try to put a little hot and a little cold into my palm to rinse but it just never worked. And, they never have cups in the bathroom.
I turn on the hot and cold so that it's warm. Me no likey cold water.
I wet the brush, put toothpaste on from one end of the bristles to the other, then I wet it again.
I bursh, always starting with the left back and cleaning the tops and front all the way around to the right. Then I work my way back to the left. Then I hit the backs. I brush the front in a circular motion, the backs from side to side.
If I am at home I will drink the water directly from the stream. Anywhere else, I use my hand or a cup.
I use Crest Advanced Care and a soft brush.
I'm not a great flosser. I'm real good about a month before and a month after my dentist appointment. But I try. I use the flossers that you snap the heads on and off of. I floss before I brush. I feel like you should get the stuff out first.
I also try to at rinse at least once per day with Crest Advanced Care rinse.
I don't have plaque tablets. I thought they only gave those to kids. Oh wait, that explains it. :)
I think MTW's club really is a fancy hoity toity racquet club. What kind of club has a mouth wash dispenser? A hoity toity club!
Chris's dipping makes sense. It's the same as putting the toothbrush under the spout to get it wet.
Now, if he dipped it in the cup after brushing his teeth to rinse off the brush, THEN rinsed his mouth with the same water, that would be icky.
Then again, it's his own fluids.
LOL Boo. Very detailed :-)
And LOL at the plaque tablets. I didn't want to say anything, but I also thought they gave those out to children. *giggle*
I do what you do, Kim. No cup and use the cleaned off brush to rinse.
I think Coco uses a porcupine.
Those tablets taste good. I brush 2 times a day but lately the first time I brush has sometimes been pushed to around lunch time. I can't tell you how mortified I have been to go to the preschool and realize I have not brushed my teeth yet.
(see I take a shower at night now cause I need my sleep in the morning so my routine is screwy).
I floss both times but sometimes when I have something stuck in there. I keep meaning to take it with me everywhere but I can't remember to brush my teeth so I don't think I will remember that.
Thank cod someone else is normal around here, Breezy. :-)
LOL at Boo's very detailed description. Although there are no numbers, if you look closely, it's a list.
Oh i leave the water running too. Never use mouthwash.
The kids love brushing their teeth so much I use it as a reward sometimes.
Does is gross anyone else out on TV when they show people brushing their teeth and they don't rinse or anything? They just brush, spit out the toothpaste and then carry on with whatever.
Oh, and btw Kim, what is cheedar? I've never heard of that cheese before. *giggle*
Here's a random Jen fact:
I used to love brushing with Arm & Hammer Baking Soda toothpaste and then drinking orange juice. I thought it tasted good. Haven't done that in a while though.
More random facts:
I now use the Crest Pro Health toothpaste and it has little crystals or something in it that crunch when I brush my teeth. I kinda like it.
I hope Jen uses the right end. I know she messes that up a bit from time to time.
My toothbrush is blue. I usually try to get a silver one, but the blue ones were on sale in a 2 pack.
*spits toothpaste on Zombs*
Jen: Cheedar is what you can't have any of. *whack*
And yes, I get a little grossed out watching people brush their teeth on tv. period.
The oj & A&H toothpaste thing? Might make you crazier than bravie.
I brush twice a day. Just a dab of toothpaste and I don't let the water run once it comes to temperature because, like Nookie, I have one tooth that hurts like a summabitch if I put anything cold right onto it.
I never use a cup & consider them non-hygeinic. I cup water into my hand and rinse vigorously, multiple times.
The last toothpaste I bought was a mistake and turned out to be some kind of "luminesce" carp - which is a weird, glowy gel. Usually I don't like gel.
I rarely floss, only when there is something stuck and I can't pick it out with my fingernail or power suck it out. I am very good at power sucking.
I would really not like to brush in public, even at a club - even a nice hoity-toity one. I will, however, power rinse and spit anywhere and I usually do that the first time I visit a bathroom after I eat.
Damn! I should have said I take my teeth out and hold them under running water!
One word for the sensitive teeth peeps...Sensodyne! I've started using it and it really does make a difference.
I put a fairly liberal amount of toothpaste on a dry brush, run the water long enough to get the water cold because brushing with warm water is icky. I used to let the water run but my Dad told me not to do that when we moved to a house with a septic system (and I always do what my Daddy says).
I brush for a while, then spit and turn the water back on to rinse, then off and back on each time I rinse.
When we're at the cottage during the winter or when we're camping and there's no running water I use a glass of water and rinse with the toothpasty water. Nothing like roughing it. *giggle*
Flossing? Not nearly as often as I should. Mouthwash? Whenever I feel the need.
OMG, it is a list.
LOL, Swami!
Interesting, Lights. You put the water on AFTER the toothpaste.
I sould try sensodyne. I have one tooth that is sensitive. And Brett Favre tells me it works. Brett and Lights? Now there is a power endorsement.
I can't start my day until I brush. I can go with a shower, combing my hair - but I have to brush 1st thing.
I use a Sonicare brush. It has a 2 minute timer that beeps every 30 seconds to remind you to go to another quad. And I often leave the water on. Medium amount of toothpaste, Crest pro-heath (I think) rinse.
Flossing I don't do but I do buy those tiny brush thingies to push between my teeth and use them a couple times a day. I'm sucking on one now.
I hate poor dental hygiene in people. Green/yellow crusty teeth are just so wrong.
