White Reisling Cheddar today. Ok, you can have some wine, too.
September is my favorite month of the whole year. I love the crisp fall smells, football, campfires, no humidity, leaves changing, apples, etc.
Speaking of apples, what's your favorite thing to do with apples? Do you ever make anything with apples?
I usually make a batch of applesauce. I need to dig out grandma's recipe. She always made THE best applesauce.
I usually make one pie, although I'm not a huge apple pie fan.
Sometimes I'll make a crisp.
I usually toss some squash and apples in a nice savory or sweet fall dish (depending on how I season them, it's sometimes savory, sometimes pretty sweet)
I need to make some savory main dish with apples. Chicken stuffed with brie and apples sounds in order.
And I always buy a special caramel apple from the orchard. Snickers and caramel, to be exact.

I'm not a huge fan of apples. I'll eat apple pie if it's in front of me but it wouldn't be my first choice.
Applesauce is just vomit.
Wow, I've never heard someone react so strongly to applesauce.
LOL, yeah, I'm not much of a fan.
Yet you'll eat peas and Doritos. *shakes head*
Dakota's apple pie is awesome. I think I still have a couple of slices left.
I once made homemade applesauce. It was good. I wonder why I didn't make it again?
Oh, and Mattben is a banana. I saw him post in the poopie thresd that this wife changed their sons diaper.
Thanks for the mattben intel, df!
I'm not a fan of apples. I'll eat them if DH slices it up for me. I do like apple juice though. I used to like applesauce on pork chops.
DH loves apple pie. I'll eat it if it's warmed up and has ice cream on top. :-)
Applesauce reminds me of baby food.
I love apples. I love apple sauce. I love baked apples in the fall - coring them out, filling them with a pat of butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon and baking them. Yum.
I also like to make a roast pork loin with potatoes, onions, and apples roasted along with it.
I love September, too. I really love days like today - bright, sunny, crisp and clear. I got married in September, too.
Mr. Fro always brings me one of the caramel apples they sell at the hospital on Sweetest day, so that's my caramel apple for the year.
Now I do like me some applejuice. But it gives me diarrhea.
What's Sweetest Day?
I like baked apples and fried apples and Apple Betty. Tom loves Apple pie so I make him one or two every fall. The last couple I made were way too juicy so the bottom crust was very soggy. Either I have lost my touch or apples are breed to be more juicy these days and I just haven't adjusted.
My favorite apple things would be a nice Waldorf Salad and Chicken breasts sauteed in fresh apple sauce with a little extra cinnamon and white pepper.
I loved candy apples as a kid, and we used to make them using mom's homemade caramel. I tried making them with one of those wraps from the grocery store a few years ago and they turned out awful! Sweet, fakey, and rubber cement on your teeth! Ick.
I *never* buy apples to eat, but I always love apples when they're available. I love apple pastries, especially pie, but any apple pastry will do.
And of course, I LOVE apple juice. When I discover REAL apple juice almost two years ago, it changed my life forever!
I really like apples, but they have to be extra crispy and sour. The best apple I ever had came from a wooden barrel outside a horse's stall. The apples were treats for the horses but I think I ate more apples than the horses did!
I'm a traditionalist. I like my apples sliced and accompanied by extra old cheddar.
Pears are good with fromage too.
*swoon* I love it when peeps say "fromage."
I like my apples crisp and uber sweet. Chris prefers medium firmness and tart. This usually results in us having too many apples around.
Apple slice and fromage is good. That would be the only time I'd like a tart apple.
I've been called a tart, before. Not a tart apple but just tart.
I love, love, LOVE apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. Yummy!!!!
Except I don't know how to make it. So I'm usually at the mercy of ex's grandmother or Mrs Smith's.
By the way - what is this fall you speak of? And the smells? And no humidity? And leaves changing?
Oh. Wait. You live in a Northern area where they actually HAVE seasons beyond summer and cold.
I love fall too. Just substitute hockey for football for me. Training camp starts Friday...wooo!
That chicken and brie and apples sounds yummy.
What's real apple juice? Err is it organic or something?
And I still say you need to come back to Texas with your $500. I might even let you bring Chris.
Hmm, extra firm tarts!
I like this blog. :)
I don't wanna come to to Texas in September...I need to wait til there's a foot of snow on the ground here. And I think Chris would indeed pout if I came to Texas again without him.
I love them. WE are going picking this weekend. I love apple pie, crisp and homemade applesauce. I also love caramel apples. Oh and apple candles! Love that smell!
I lhate apple juice though and love cider though. Why do I feel like we discussed the natural juice already?
Hey Zombie! I have apple candles. They are yummy, and even made of food grade paraffin, but I wouldn't recommend eating them.
I bit into a Granny smith the other day thinking it was a Golden Delicious. DH had peeled it, so I couldn't tell. My kids laughed quite a long time watching my expression.
I think I'm going to have to find somewhere that sells caramel apples.
fromage
I don't like September. Except for the start of football.
I prefer a McIntosh or a Gold Delicious.
I like to chop up Granny Smith apples and eat them in a salad. I also like to eat apple slices on Triscuits with cheddar cheese (the sharper the better). I love applesauce. And I like apple juice. And I agree with Mark about the fresh apple juice.
I think we are going to go apple picking this year. And hopefully I'll be able to do some baking with my apples.
I also love apple pie, warm, with vanilla ice cream. And I really like a lattice crust. I'm not a big apple crisp person. But then again, I'm not a "crisp" person. I do like a cobbler.
*waggles eyes at dragonflies*
And of course Bree likes lattice crust. Sooo high maintenance.
I bought a new type of apple today. The info said they were crisp, sweet and extra juicy. Yep, they are all three.
Applie pie is my favorite, warm with cinanmon ice cream.
I think you can fly to Ohio for less than $500.
Zombie, you may be remembering my post on the apple juice topic:
From my December 2006 archives:

Hmm, maybe this link will work better:
Swami, Sweetest Day is Valentine's Day's younger, uglier, more made-up October cousin.
We don't actually celebrate it. Mr. Fro's hospital sells the caramel apples for Halloween starting a couple of weeks before (so, around Sweetest Day) and he always buys one, guilted into it because it's some fund raiser. He gives it to me, and says it's for Sweetest Day, but really it's a guilt-gotten early Halloween apple.
It's become a joke. I pouted the one year I didn't get my guilt apple.
I went for a walk in the small town where DS was at for swim practice last night. I was with another mom, and as we walked we came across a bunch of apples lying on the sidewalk. There was an apple tree that was full of apples. I was very tempted to stop and inspect, but *sigh* didn't.
I pretty much just eat apples. Nothing special. I do love dipping them into cottage cheese though! *yum*
I am going to our local apple farm place next month and they always have the best apple cider and apple pie. Yay for me! :)
I love apples! Honey Crisp are my absolute favorite but they are elusive. Not sure what fall is going to be like here. We just got out of the 90's.
I make a mean apple crisp and the kind WITHOUT the carpy oatmeal on top. Oatmeal on top is blechy. I will miss apple picking in the north. That was always fun. :)
Happy Belated Anniversary Kim!!! And I'm super glad that Bartleby is doing better.
Count me in the apples + sharp cheddar = love camp. I also like apples and swiss cheese, although to be honest, I like just about anything with swiss cheese.
Easiest apple crisp recipe ever:
Peel & slice 5 to 6 apples and arrange in the bottom of a casserole or baking dish. Mix half a box of white cake mix with a melted half stick of butter, a couple teaspoons of cinnamon, and a couple teaspoons of sugar. Spread mixture over apples and bake at 350 for around 40 to 45 minutes. You can also sprinkle the top with nuts before baking, but I prefer it without. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. I make this for Thanksgiving at DH's mother's house each year and his family usually demolishes the whole dish.
