babysitting

Have some mac n' cheese and tell me what I'm supposed to do with these kids.

I'm watching my niece & nephew (10 & 11), which I'm usually better prepared for. I usually make plans, or they don't come until evening. But I just found out last night we'd be having them overnight & they came at 3:00 p.m.

They'd be content watching cartoons all afternoon & night. I figure I can pry them away to play a game. I wish we had more to do in town. Maybe we'll go bowling after dinner.

I'm going to have a glass of wine. That will help me think better.

Weltek: I have kids every day of my life and I still don't know what to do with them most days.

What ages are they?

A bit late for advice, I guess, but how about:

- bowling: get the bumpers and then you don't have to worry about gutter balls

- indoor miniputt

- indoor playground (Around here there are a couple - for a small fee, you can let your kid(s) run around inside if the weather is bad and you can't go to a park.)

- rent movies and pop popcorn

- Ikea (They've got supervised play areas for the kids and you can just leave them there, as long as they're potty-trained and go look around the store. You don't even have to buy anything!)

- McDonald's with a PlayPlace (I wouldn't eat there, but you can get a coffee or something and let them play.)

- Children's Museum (There are a few cities with hands-on science/technology places where kids can learn about the life cycle of frogs or what goes into building a house.)

- Home Depot (Around here, HD conducts free kids crafts on the last Saturday of the month. Maybe it's different where you are. Last time we went, the kids made little wooden bobsleds.)

I'm all about finding cheap/free stuff to do with kids. Our city's website is great for helping with that. Maybe yours is too.

Sorry I missed this! Did you go bowling? How did it work out?

Baking cookies and stuff is always fun. Maybe this morning, they can help you make breakfast!

Thanks for the advice!

We played Uno for a long time...the game would never end!

We decided not to bowl because the darn Uno game went so long.

There were NO movies on payperview that were appropriate/kids hadn't seen.

They played Sims on the computer for a bit.

Chris had them watching one of those World's Craziest Video shows. Ugh. Then cartoons til bedtime.

Normally I'd plan more activities like Seana suggested, but the nearest big town is where they live, so we do more stuff there when we come to THIER house to babysit.

They are playing LIFE on playstation with Chris right now. He's a good uncle.
