Happy Holiday Hangover!

I hate going back to work after a holiday.

Let's have some taco dip piled high with cheddar to wallow in our holiday hangover.

I hope you had a fun day off and celebrated in some way, shape or form.

We did yardwork during the day, found out our shower was leaking and did some repair of that mess, and cooked a yummy dinner. Chris made some guac, bacon & cheddar burgers. I made grilled endive with blue cheese and a balsamic vinegarette and dilled potato salad. Our friend came over for dinner and we ate on the patio. Then it was off to the outdoor theatre to see The Merchant of Venice. It was hot out for most of the play. Around 9:30 it started to really cool down. At 10:00 it started to sprinkle. The play finished at 10:15 (reduced Shakespeare this is not) and then it POURED rain. We walked back to the car drenched.

I never realized The Merchant of Venice was so anti-semitic. I knew the general premise of the play, but had never read it, nor seen it performed. Wow, it was sad in many respects.

Glad you had a good holiday, and it does suck to have to go back to work. The good news? Tomorrow is Friday.

The Merchant of Venice was the first Shakespeare play that I read - and the one I remember best. It might help that I have a cousin named Portia ;-)

I've been to a couple of Shakespearean (sp) plays and had trouble staying focused each time. I had the same problem reading him in high school. :(

Speaking of leaks.... please ignore the huge water damage on the ceiling in the utility room this weekend and the light hanging down from it. ok? Thanks. *grin*

Oh and did I mention the wedding? I'll be wearing a skort and tank top to it. It's outside and it's for a couple of hillbillies. *giggle* No! Not me. But I have to make an appearance since Ayla is a bridesmaid.

How sweet that Ayla is your bridesmaid, Breeze. I'm assuming that Kimmer will be a bridesmaid too since she will be there.

Are you making me sleep in the utility room, Breezy? If you are, it will be hard for me to ignore the ceiling.

Wedding?! Everytime I visit Ayla is in a wedding. So, can I tell friends about how you and I go waaaay back and then make up embarassing stories about you?
*grin*

*whack* the blonde? If you want me to be nice to you, this isn't the way to go about it.

Kimmer, *snort* sure you can make up stories if you want. This is my ex-inlaws they already think I'm nuts. Oh and no, you'll be sleeping in Ayla's room. You won't mind 500 Beanie Babies staring at you, will you? *grin*

*prepares for beanie nightmares* Can I crawl into bed with you and P if I get scared?

He says yes. *giggle*

Are you here yet?

Is it tomorrow yet?

Work sucks the day after, and I didn't even drink.

I just don't want to be here. Is it 4:30 yet?

*passes on the taco stuff because I'm full of chicken*

We did some yard work, rebuilt our garage-to-house steps, and grilled the most hugest & tender steak ever. It was divine with a nice strawberry salad.

Merchant was the first Shakespearean play I read in school too. (Waves to Meemo - must be a Southern Ontario tradition.) But my folks always took us to Stratford ON for their big Shakespearian Festival so I had seen any number of plays before studying one. And Hamlet was the first one I read. Hmm. I should blog that sometime - it's kind of an interesting story.

When I first saw Merchant of Venice I didn't know who Jews were, lol. One of the byproducts of living in a small town and being raised by non-religious people. I just thought Shylock was a mean old guy - the anti-semitic stuff went right over my head until the ninth grade teacher pointed it out. And yeah - the whole pound of flesh thing was awful.

Forgot to say: Oooo-threesome! You guys are so bad!

So bad, we are good. :-)

Swami-you seem to have done some cool childhood things. What do you think drew your parents to take you to the Shakespeare festival each year? We they Shakespeare lovers or was it the atmosphere they liked?

Dad loved Shakespeare, mostly the plays. Mom liked the sonnets better. We had LPs (big-ass vinyl records for all you young -uns out there) of the major plays and actually listened to them.

Stratford drew great actors. I have seen both Sir Lawrence Olivier and Christopher Plummer. I also saw William Shatner play the Duke of Gloucester right before he went to Hollywood to play Captain Kirk. Man, was he a good-looking guy!

I loved Stratford but I hated the drive. When I was a kid there was one 2-lane road leading into town and it backed up for miles at Festival time!

Oh yeah - I hated the damn swans. I was just a kid and the Festival was held during swan nesting season. The damn swans would come lunging & hissing out of the rushes, chase you down the sidewalk and bite your ass repeatedly! Well, if you were a kid they did. My dad would flap his arms and chase them off but they always bit me a few times first. Damn swans. I was traumatized. (Evil sister Carole always tricked me into going near a nest. One of the many reasons I hated her back then.)

I'm not even hungover and work sucks. Then again my work always sucks.

I was hungover Monday as I partied hard with my fellow geek hockey fans on free agency day. It was most excellent.
Yesterday J and I spent the day together...no drinking involved. :)
We got rain right after we got back from the pool (which was chilly, but nice)

we were very original and had a cookout and pool party at sil's. i know, it's hard to believe that i don't have my own entertaining magazine or show or the like.

around 5, i forced oldest child to drive with me to chattanooga so we could shoot fireworks with my two younger kids and parents. he was pissed. i was annoyed that he was pissed, so that was a fun 3 hour trip.
