Happy Thursday!

Laughing Cow Mini Babybels today.

First, I have to say I love Luna's new cheer. Grate, grate, grate job! LOL!

I worked from home yesterday & couldn't get online for very long. The cats chewed up my laptop power cord, so the laptop was dead. I had to use our desktop which connects to the net at the speed of pondwater & thus, I dedicated online time to work-related stuff. *pout*

The "diet" is going well. I'm focusing on smaller portions with the biggest section of my plate being veggies. I'm steering back away from too much fat in my cooking (I was being too generous with cheese & olive oil lately) & bought a big ol bag of Splenda (next time I'm sending my sister to Sam's Club for it...like Costco as MTW suggested but we don't have one here). I have a ton of bottled water on hand and have been doing really well drinking that.

Exercising is going ok. Since I got the deal on the treadmill, etc at the auction a few months ago I've been faithfully exercising at least 3 nights/week.

My biggest challenges:
1. Snacks. I have a bad portion control thing with snacks. I don't find small portions instantly gratifying and thus want to eat more. I need to be more patient & wait for the small snack to settle in & then check my hunger.

2. Someone to make me oatmeal in the mornings. I had a bowl of oatmeal yesterday & it was sooo satisfying. However, I don't really care for instant oatmeal & I'm too lazy to make real oatmeal every morning. Will you make it for me?

3. Finding time to cook some weeknights with the pt job. It will be over soon (7 weeks), so I just have to suck it up til then & try to pre-prep some meals for Chris to cook.

Thanks for all the great advice & support, you guys. I realized if I lost 10 lbs by the end of the year, I'd be down 20 lbs since Dec of last year and all my clothes would fit well. And then Luna might sing the grate job song for me.

Yay for you.

I have the same problems with snacks.

Theoretically, you can make oatmeal in a crockpot hooked up to timer.

I've never done it, but it may be possible.

Well, if you would come & clean my floors, Bob, you could also make me oatmeal.

I love the Laughing Cow soft wedges, but not the mini babybels.

Snack portion control is also hard for me. I also find that if I eat breakfast, it just makes me hungrier throughout the day and I end up eating a bigger lunch and wanting to snack more, so I try to skip breakfast.

I've been doing well with staying away from candy for the most part. I gave a huge supply of my best stuff to my sister. That was crucial to thwart temptation.

LOL at MTW for having various grades of snack stash.

Hah. Like MTW, I like the Laughing Cow soft wedges. I don't think I've ever tried the mini baby bels.

More veggies and smaller portions is great. I really need to make my portions smaller. I have no self control though.

And, that is why I just don't buy snack foods. If they are in the house, then I'll eat them. There is no possible portion control. I'm a glutton. DH, on the other hand, can fill a tiny bowl with chips or just take one or two cookies and be satisfied. Not me. I say, fuck the bowl and just eat from the bag LOL.

I love the instant oatmeals. I used to have that for lunch when DH was out of town. I should get back to having those.

Hang in there Kim. It always makes it so much more difficult to diet when the other half of the relationship isn't on the same page as you.

Updates:

I had a tiny bit of leftover oatmeal with peaches mixed in as my mid-morning snack. It actually reheated ok.

I didn't tell you about our tornado scare last night. It's the first time we've gotten to the point of coralling the pets in the basement. Which was real fun with the dog there, too. I didn't make them get in the little spot I carved out for all of us under our basement stairs (thick cement walls on both sides), but just keeping them downstairs with only a baby gate was entertaining. I used to opportunity to use my cardioglide while in my nightie & slippers. It was an interesting sight, I'm sure. And yes, Chris was outside storm watching *rolls eyes* We used his walkie-talkies, though, so it was kind of fun.

*giggles* I can't help but laugh. I've always wondered at which point during a bad storm that we will head to the basement. Of course, DH is always saying, "it's not going to happen here". Famous last words right?

Last year, when my mom was visiting, there was a warning so I said that's it, into the basement. So I went downstairs with my mom and we sat on the sofa watching the tv for 5 minutes then got bored and went back upstairs LOL.

mmmm...oatmeal. But I like to add lots of brown sugar to it.

Fat free Teddy Grahms are good. Count out the amount is says on the side. Eat slowly and it really satisfys.

Or else use those Teddys in a naughty way.

I have never bought Laughing Cow anything. I find the name dismissive of cowkind. Not to mention disrespectful.

Oatmeal is only good with raisins in it.

O.K. I went and looked up my favorite microwave oatmeal recipe for you. Not instant.

1 cup water
1/2 cup oatmeal
pinch of salt
pinch (1/4 t) cinnamon
1T brown sugar (adjust as you like)
small pat of butter

Cover and Microwave on High (preferably using turntable) 4 min. Let stand, covered, a minute or so to finish cooking. (Use a bowl large enough to allow for the fact that the cereal will rise during cooking, so you don't have a mess.)

Stir, and, if you like, add in a bit of maple syrup. Serve with milk.

(You can add chopped fruit before microwaving, if desired. You may need to increase microwave time to 5 min. if you do so.)

Total time 5-6 min. (including standing time) + prep time. (Put the ingredients together in the bowl you're using the night before & refrigerate and you're down to 5-6 minutes, tops.)

Serves 1.

(And, I lvoe Babybels. During conferences I always took a few and, in addition to tasteing good, playing with, and shaping, the wax covering always made other peeps jealous 'cause I had a toy. :-))
