Diet time

Low fat string cheese for us today. It's time I get off the junk food binge. The time is perfect because produce is fantastic right now.

So what is everyone's take on these things:

1) Do I seriously limit my caffeine intake? Is it worth it or will I feel too sluggish? I drink regular coffee in the morning (2-3 cups) and 1 Diet Coke/day currently. Is that too harmful?

2) MM says I shouldn't ingest certain body fluids. Does this mean I'll have to spit out my saliva? I might get a spitoon for my desk.

3) What are your favorite health related websites?

4) Can I made a big batch of brown rice & freeze it in smaller portions for quick side dishes? I've never frozen rice by itself, but I imagine it would be ok. Anything else you can think of making for side dishes in "bulk" & freezing that's diet friendly?

Never do without the coffee. If I didn't have my coffee, I would be committed. Seriously.

Are body fluids high in calories? I ingest body fluids due to their high protein content. It's good for the hair and nails. :)

I'd say the caffeine will be fine.

Uck... this string cheese tastes like plastic. *spits it out*

Stick with the coffee. Try Splenda as a sugar replacement and low fat cream. I use Land-o-Lakes half 'n half.

I can't help with any side dish ideas.

Body fluids are also good for the skin. :-)

Good luck!

I love you all for saying I can keep drinking caffeine. :-)

I drink my coffee, black, so no worries on sugar & cream. I do need to buy some Splenda again. I wish it weren't so expensive.

Coffee is a food group. I think your intake seems fine (unless you have trouble sleeping)

Rice can be frozen, but it tends to get dry (white more than brown).

Cooking rice with some very lightly sauteed onions and chopped tomatoes and salt makes it much more palatable side dish. Just toss them on top when you add the water.

My best diet advice is to cook the same, but when you serve your food, add twice as much veggies and half as much meat and potatoes as your other half (Guys can generally eat more). It's a pretty easy modification that gives you a healthier plate of food. If you want more when you are done, grab another serving. (If you tell yourself that when you are serving, you don't feel short changed, but I find I usually just have what I served and then a taste more)

Good advice, Bob. I told Chris I refuse to eat one thing & cook him something different. It doesn't help that he hates fish. Sometimes I make fish & he cooks himself a steak. He's a capable cook, he just rarely does it.

*sigh* I'm starting over again... damn dieting.

Coffee: I think I've read somewhere that you can actually counter the effect of coffee by having too much.

I would probably follow Nookie's advice and go with the Splenda and the Land-O-Lakes. LOL actually makes a fat free that is really good.

I will refrain from commenting on other body fluids.

I don't know about the rice thing. I've never frozen any rice, especially brown rice. I think I bought a box of it a while back but before I could bring myself to open it, I gave it away in one of those food collections.

I had to go back and see what the other question was.

Health-related websites. I didn't realize there were websites out there other than Blogland and RTVW. That's where I seem to spend most of my time.

I'm actually pretty knowledgeable about about how to lose weight. I'm just not very good at following those rules.

I'm trying to kick my own aras into shape again. It just freaking sucks.

BTW, I have not been neglecting your blog - I just haven't been able to really respond.

Well there's that fitv one that someone posted in OT.

I've been using Sparks, I can send you a link if you want.

It still cracks me up when Boo says "aras" instead of ass. *giggle*

I am a diet failure, so no advice from me. I'm still dieting, but not losing any weight. What's the point? *sigh*

I think rice gets ooky unless it is frozen in some kind of veggie sauce way like Bob suggests.

--Look for foods with a low glycemic index.
--Tell Chris he's on his own except for weekends.
--Avoid sugar, and when you do use it, use pure cane sugar (like C&H) - not sugar beet sugar (like Crystal Farms), and avoid corn syrup at all costs. Corn syrup is evil.
--Walk as much as possible.
--Send me all your squeeky cheese curds.

The key to losing weight is excercise. I hate to be the bearer or bad news.

Coffee. Must have coffee. Buy Splenda at Costco. It's expensive once, but lasts forever.

Ick, none, who knows.

Exercise.

BTW: I have noticed a huge difference since I have not been walking as much. I can feel it in my right thigh. Don't ask, that's the first place it starts.

*giggles with Jen. It certainly fits*

Surprisingly, Carey is right. The most I can lose with just dieting is 5 lbs. But with exercising I can be semi-svelte again.

Glad to say, I finally got my ass out of bed this morning and worked out. *grin*

Contrary to the exercise theory, I lost 30 pounds by portion control and food combo through LA Weightloss. I'm now on stabilization.

This was done on food and food alone (and rum and diet coke and wine spritzers) I did not buy one product from them, no bars, no pills, nuthin'

I had to stop exercising until I reached my goal weight because muscle would add on a couple of pounds and we were going strictly for the number.

Now that I am on stabilization I can start to exercise a bit. I actually miss the cardio.

No diet advise. After years of yoyo dieting, the only reason I lost weight and continue to do so, is cause of difficulties eating and swallowing.

*whacks Breezy* WTF do you mean by surprisingly? *glare*
I'm very smart for a blonde.

I think I actually had a candy-free day yesterday! I did have ice cream, but it was dollar night, so that can't be helped.

I would probably have had candy, but I was so freakin tired that I fell asleep on the couch watching Big Brother before I could go over and look at the candy pile.

Dammit! Strike that last comment. I remember having some of my daughter's salt water taffy when I got home last night. I think.

*thinks back*
*blur*

What day is today?
Why is there no new update here?

MTW you have a candy PILE?! Yikes. You must *LOVE* Halloween!

Oh and water, Kim. Drink lots of water. Have stuff prepacked in fridge. Celery, carrots, cucumbers, etc. so you can just grab and go. I also used those 100 calorie packs for snacks. Believe it or not, they were just enough. Weightwatchers has GREAT fugicles and dessert pops. Biggest thing is not to eat after 7:30-8:00. That's REALLY hard when you get home late. Ummm, what else. Wheat pasta v. white. Very little taste difference. I actually like it better. I lost 36 pounds this past spring. I have another 22 to go. The more you exercise, the more you can eat (healthy foods of course). Fat free yogurt in the morning is a great breakfast.

Sugar free jello is really good too. maybe add some fruit - pineapple or mandarin oranges.

Swami said...

Sugar free jello is freakin' good!

Jell-o is the devil's own creation. No way am I eating food that is still moving.

Survey<--has a texture problem with Jello.

KIM!!!!!!!!

Okay, this has nothing to do with your post.

The leader of the workshop I've been in this week keeps teaching us these silly cheers to use with our students to praise when they do well. Yesterday she taught us the Wisconsin cheer!

Basically, you pretend to be sliding a chunk of cheese over a grater and go "Grate grate grate grate grate grate grate job!"

Heeee! I so thought of you right away!

I try to avoid "diet" foods, and go with low-fat, or even regular, but just eat it all in moderation. What Bob said works well, too. Tonight I made whole wheat pasta and added just as much broccoli to the pot, as there was pasta. It was good.
