Key Lime Cheesecake for everyone this morning, topped with my special raspberry currant sauce.
Good morning Chippiepie, Hushpuppy, Fishcakes, et al,
I spent a few hours yesterday making travel arrangements for my first November conference (San Francisco is first and then Dallas). Chris IS coming with me to San Francisco and I was able to use my frequent flyer miles to buy him a ticket. It only cost $10. Yay! Unfortunately, our flight will leave Madison at 6:15 a.m. (we have a 45 min. drive to the airport). Gah!
Those "award travel" tickets aren't exactly good. Our choices were to leave MSN at 6:15 am & get to SFO at 11 am, leave MSN at 7:00 a.m. and get to SFO at 10:00 pm or leave at noon & get in at 11 pm. I didn't want to get in late because that would waste an entire day on a plane & in airports. What a waste. And I love some of the routes. One took us from Madison to Atlanta to Cincinatti to San Fran. Ah, no thanks.
I'm goint to OT to ask about car rental companies.

YAY!!!! Kim and Chris are coming out west. *hops*
Yep. Some of the airline routings are so bizzare.
I can't help you with car rental places. I usually go to expedia.com and check the pricing there.
Sure... rub it in our faces. *pout*
Hey Kim,
Our school has an account with a car rental company for any official school business.
Do you have something like that, and would this conference for it? You should check to see if you have anything similar.
We have a "no sales tax" deal with National that I can use. The rental won't be reimbursable beyond what it would otherwise cost to taxi from the airport to the hotel.
Between Chris and I, we have discount deals with National, Alamo, Avis and Hertz, so it comes down to price & service at this point. Alamo and National are winning on price.
I have used both National & Alamo before and never had any problems with either. As a matter of fact, twice with Alamo, they were out of the car model we reserved so we got upgraded for free!
Once, we were in Florida and got upgraded to a convertible! That was fun, until we got hit with one of those Florida rainstorms while we were driving. *giggle*
Did you know? The top won't go up until the car is totally stopped. It was about 5 minutes until we hit a red light. *snort*
Can you sleep on planes? I can... it'll make the 6:15 flight much more bearable. It sounds like a fun trip. *smooch*
Good point, Deb. That flight from Cincinatti to SF will be a good chance to snooooooze.
I hope you can sleep, Kim. I absolutely cannot sleep on planes. If I have to fly for 6, 10 or 18 hours then I am up for 6, 10 or 18 hours. Sucks.
Bring a good book.
I can't wait for your trip to Dallas and our peep meet.
Yay, cheescake!
I know nothing of SF, but it seems that's where all the cool peeps are going.
Are you meeting anyone there?
