Area in red is where I'm thinking the patio should go.
First picture is the view from our existing deck, the sides are also wooded, so it's nice and private (note, we've left our deck railing-less for now, until we decide what to do with the rest of the area)

WOW! What a beautiful house! And, look at that backyard! So much space. Your grass is so green.
Nookie <---- completely gellus of Kim's backyard
I see a red x. Is that the area in red you are talking about? *grin*
I'm thinking this looks like a great place for the next peep meet.
Try refreshing it, Jen. I had that trouble with my lovely drawing from yesterday. :-)
*soaks in compliments* Nolay will be happy you noticed the lawn, Nookie! Wouldn't you agree that we need a nice patio area, though? Do you think pavers would compliment the landscape? I should add a pic of the view from the existing deck.
Pavers would be lovely and yes, please show us a pic of the view from the deck.
Absolutely beautiful!!!
Oh, and now I see why Nolay needed a rider-mower. Just not a $5000 one LOL.
Beautiful home with a great big yard and great green grass. A patio will be a wonderful addition. I love the fire pits like you were talking about.
I'm moving in with Kim and Chris.
I'm moving in with Chris, Kim and Carey.
Ok, there are two extra rooms right now. Anyone else will have to share a room with either momma or carey. *beats back crowd with a stick* I should've known better than to suggest that.
Momma and Carey can share with each other and I'll take the vacant room.
Or I could share with momma! :)
Or I could share with Carey! :)
Or Carey and I could share momma! :)
Wow. The possibilities are endless.
Is Chris willing to share you? *grin*
We don't need a room. We'll be over in our camper.
Nice yard!
What a lovely home and yard.
I'll just sleep on the couch.
What? No lawnmower pictures?
Beautiful house and lawn and back yard.
Wow!
Chris snores, so I'm open to new roomies. :-)
And there's always room for your camper, SG!
Woooo Hooooo. I'm getting cool new roomies. I can bring Michelle, right? She doesn't mind sharing as long as she is there. :)
Holy Carp! That has got to be one of the most beautiful backyards I've ever seen. It'll be so awesome once you've added the new patio.
*packs up tent and sleeping bag and heads to Kim's*
We so need to play croquet in your backyard.
OMG!!! It is gorgeous.
I don't really have any ideas that you might want. I still have a freaking shed in the middle of my backyard. And now that I'm on the board, it might have to stay in that legal spot for another year.
We have the Trex for our deck. It's nice because there are no splinters - but it is expensive. The rails are wood, and they need to be restained already.
I'm not posting any pictures of my yard after seeing this. Very beautiful.
Awwwwwwwwww come on Boo, show us another picture of the shed *gigglesnort*
Yes, bob, it is an excellent backyard for croquet. Just don't hit the ball into the woods. There's poison ivy lurking.
And yes, carey, Michelle can come. Not sure how your cats and ours will get along.
Boo-I like the Trex stuff, but yes, it's very expensive. I REALLY want the Ipe wood that is real wood, yet maintenance free. It's uber pricey. Hence, I'll be getting plain ol treated lumber as we currently have & staining every other year. In fact, I just finished staining the front & back yesterday.
Ah! I see the pics now. Wow, very nice!
*packs bags*
I don't like the fake woodies, Kim. They never look real to me. Our deck is cedar - more attractive than green-treated wood, less pricey than fake woodies, and it looks perfect.
I hate, hate, hate the standard deck railings, with spindles 2-inches apart. They totally block the view. (In MN 2" apart spindles are Code.) Our first floor deck is just low enough that we do not have to abide by Code for the rails. We wound up using 1&1/2 inch galvanized pipe, spray painted to look like copper, with copper-topped finials on the cedar posts. I really love the look and it preserves our view.
I think you have designed a really nice deck/patio combo. I guess my only suggestion would be to think about how you will inter-relate the stone and the wood. I would put wood benches (the same wood as the deck) on the ends of the stone patio, and maybe some kind of stone 'art' on the wooden deck. Pick an accent color that works with both the stone and wood and use that to help pull the whole look together.
What will you do with the area under the deck? Covered storage? Screen it in? (I love my screen porch because the mosquitoes are held a bay.) I hate standard lattice used to enclose an under-deck area--mostly just because so many people use it. It's cheap and it does look finished & nice, but I just find it unimaginative.
On second thought... I'll give up the couch if I can share Nookies tent with her. *grin*
I think swami needs to post pictures of her deck.
And geez, I was going to do lattice, but now you made me feel all boring. I'll have to reconsider.
We'd eventually like to make the top deck into a screened area. That will require some major deconstruction to do what we'd like, though.
Don't you just love that fresh, lively green the lawn takes on after the icky cold winter? Your home and backyard are lovely and you definitely need a big ole patio.
Big patios are a necessity.
