Feline Acne

Kasseri cheese, flambe'd for your pleasure.

Ever heard of feline acne? I think my calico might have it. She has a few dark spots that have developed around her mouth, but the inside of the mouth looks fine. So I read up & relized it might be feline acne. It can be caused by plastic water dishes (which we use & don't clean as often as we should). Cats can't groom their chins well, thus it's a breeding ground for kitty cat acne.

Guess I need to call the vet.

I skimmed your post and was going to say they can get that from plastic dishes, but I guess you figured that out.

My friend's cat had that. She replaced the dishes and it cleared up.

That's encouraging, Bob. I'm such a stressing kitty mom that I need to hear these things.

Don't bother with the vet just yet. My kitty cats get that. I have removed all plastic bowls. Go to the pharmacy and get some cleansing pads. Not the strong kind. I'll have to let you know the name of them tomorrow as I can't remember. You just dab one of the pads on the kitty's chin once/twice a day and acne goes away.

Thanks, Nookie!

I need to get her to the vet anyway (it's been a long time), but now I don't have to rush. I can wait til I have some vacation time scheduled in June.

Poor kitty! Dogs have the same problem with plastice bowls. Thea so far hasn't and she eats of a plastic bowl but she eats her breakfast/dinner is 45 seconds or less. Not much time for contact.

I've never heard of this. My kitties have one porcelain water bowl and one plastic water bowl. Their feeder is plastic too. But so far I have never seen the kitty acne. Poor baby.

Labs have that whole "inhale food" thing down pat.

I have a cat with acne.
I have a cat with gingivitis.
I have a cat on prozac.
I have a cat that needs a sex change.

All I need is for one of them to start having IBS.

How can you afford your kitties?

Schnookie said...

We can't LOL. We tallied up our costs from last year and we spent over $5,000 on the animals, and that's just on one credit card. I need to get on some insurance plan or send them out to work LOL.

I agree, either start a Kitty Cat Circus & charge admission or get insurance.

I've considered pet insurance, but haven't looked into it.

I never heard of feline acne. I thought it was the cheese du jour, lol.

BWAHAHAHAHA Swami!

I think I'll pass on the cheese for a little while.

Never heard of feline acne. My kitty eats and drinks out of plastic bowls. This may just give me the excuse I need to buy her (and the Lab) the cute ceramic painted bowls I saw at Petsmart last weekend.

Acne? What's next? Getting her period? Menopaws? Maybe she just needs a nice, relaxing milk bath.

Hmm, mine haven't had this, but they have a glass water bowl. Hope it clears up soon!

Menopaws???? Okay, that's too funny!

LOL at menopaws!
