I scarfed down lots of cheese this weekend in the form of Port Wine Cheese Spread. So here, enjoy.
Quick thoughts on my weekend:
I forgot to get pictures of Chris plowing with the mower.
I finished the Kite Runner (althought not as quickly as Breezy). It was AWESOME. Go buy it.
I made Alton Brown's corn dog recipe for our friends. We loved them. And ever had deep fried mashed potatoes, or is this a Wisconsin thing?
I cleaned up 8 piles of dog diarrhea. It had been on the carpet for a week. I don't own a dog, so it was somebody else's mess.

Deep fried mashed taters? Is that what we call tater cakes? How did you make them?
They call them Pinecones up here. I've only seen them in a few restaurants.
We made instant mashed potatoes, only made them a little dry (added spices, too). Rolled them into a 1x2" egg shape. Then we dipped them in a milk/egg wash, rolled them in a bread crumb concoction & fried.
I'm still craving more Alton corn dogs.
After reading about the dog, I'm not super humgry.
Someone else can have the cheese.
I love port wine cheese spread. Thank you!
On the carpet for a week?
Oh Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! Doggie diarrhea from a week ago from an unknown source. ick.
I've never had deep fried mashed taters. Sounds....oddly good.
And what is this book?
I should clarify: When we go north, we stay at my MIL's weekend house. She has a dog. She left the previous weekend without looking downstairs. I was the lucky recipient of the mess.
Momma-GO GET THE KITE RUNNER NOW! It's the story of an Afgahn boy, his betrayal of his childhood friend/servant, relationship with his father and how this affects him growing up. Wonderfully written & great story.
Mmmmmmmm, I lvoe corn dogs.
Deep fried mashed potatoes? Now that sounds like something that I would love. I may have to try these. Mmmmmmm.
Kim, the way we do it is mix the taters with flour, cheese and what ever spice you want and the deep fry. Very similar.
NUMMY!
I can't discuss the food without thinking about the dog poop.
Yick.
Plowing with the mower? How does that work? Can you use a mower as a snowblower? I hate shovelling.
What Seana said. Somehow, the food was not good enough to keep me from losing my appetetite over the dog poo.
seana, you have to buy a plow for the front of the riding mower. Well worth it for us since we have a long gravel driveway!
Ack! Sorry about the doggie poop.
My DH's family makes something similar to your deep fried taters. They are called potatoe chops. Start off with mashed potatoes, roll into balls, then you flatten out two halves, fill the middle of one half with a curried hamburger meat concoction, then seal the other half to it. Roll the ball in bread crumbs, then deep fry them. DH loves them, however, now that he is vegetarian, I have to try to come up with an alternative filling. His SIL showed me how to make them last summer. Not easy. Similar to the perogie process.
