Re-inventing Yourself

Have some Irish Dubliner Cheese & grapes.

Along the same lines as my do-over entry (which ended up being a nice reflection for many of us)....have you ever "re-invented" your persona over time? Nolay & I were drunk chatting last night & he talked about his many moves as a child & each time he "re-invented" himself. I never really went through that, as I grew up in the same place my whole life & have always lived in the same state & kept in touch with many old friends.

So *squinty eyes* who is the real you? Was that always you? What precipitated changes?

And as a side note, I've decided I need to open a retail cookware shop to appease my cooking related career needs. Less financially risky & less stress. Someday.

The real me is much wittier and about 15 pounds thinner.

I'm not sure that I have reinvented myself rather I have evolved into someone different. As a child I was confident, outgoing and trusting. Life has made me insecure, introverted and skeptical of most people.

I don't think I've ever re-invented myself. Like Carey said, I've evolved. Oddly, in the opposite way that she did. I was shy and quiet as a child. I have always been friendly, but now I will seek out people to talk to instead of waiting for people to come to me. I'm also much louder now.

I'm not sure I'd call it re-inventing myself, but I do know that when we'd move every 2 years, I'd have a chance to start over and make the changes I wanted to. Life had a fucked up way of making me grow up a lot faster than I ever should have.

I used to move a lot as a kid and always thought about trying to reinvent myself.

And I remember signing up on OT, thinking I could reinvent myself there as well. In the end, you are who you are. You can make little adjustments, but it's hard just to "reinvent" yourself on the fly.

*sigh* I've always been the sexy, popular, witty, smart, cool kid. I guess it's just my lot in life...

How DO you do it, MTW?

Pretty much the same person, although I have views that have either changed or have become realized.

I always said that when I moved away to Texas, I would start over and call myself Liz (from my middle name, Elizabeth).

I have reinvented myself three times and on purpose! I will have to lay it out on a blog sometime. Maybe each change can be one story.

Ooooooooooooh a cookware shop huh? Let me know when you do. I'll order all my cookware from you. *smooooooooooch*

I've always been shy and not one to speak first in public. A lot of this was because I couldn't speak French very well so I was always afraid of being belittled by the other person. Anyhoo, I tried reinventing myself a little when I moved to Atlanta. There was no language barrier so here was my opportunity to come out of my shell. It's definitely easier to be friendly, as in saying hello to strangers all the time. Mind you, I'm still shy.
