Book Recommendations Needed

*sets out plate of smoked provolone and colby* I'm asking a favor, so you get two cheeses today.

I have a gift certificate to use for Half Price Books. They don't have much new stuff, so I need some suggestions that are at least a few years old. I mostly like nonfiction, modern era novels, and mystery & suspense. I occassionaly pick up some humor writing that I also enjoy (David Sedaris, etc).

I'm going to pick up a few classics to add to my shelves, but I'll still be able to get a few newer books.

So suggest away!

No romance novels. They rot your brain. *smirk*

Romance novels make me barf. That's my problem with a lot of mystery & suspense novels by women...they have too much flowery worded smut in them. If I want smut, I'll buy erotica.

I can highly recommend Rachel Ray's 365 no repeats cookbook as well as Dave Lieberman's "Young and Hung"...er er I mean "Young and Hungry". We can hope...right?

I bought my Dad the Rachel Ray book for Christmas. He loves her. As soon as he is healthy he is going to start using it. I want to borrow it when he's had a chance to cook a couple of things.

My gift card gifter also got me the Rachel Ray book! I've only tried one recipe thus far-Buffalo Turkey Burgers. We used our own homemade buffalo sauce instead of just Frank's.

I think I remember watching the show when she did that on 30 minute meals. It sounds familiar.

I'm no help. I like romance novels and whatnot. I like King and Koontz (shit, I forgot how to spell his name). Did you read the Stephanie Plum books?

I read two Stephanie Plum books. They were ok, but a little light for my everyday reading.

What are your favorite King & Koontz books, Glowie? I like them both, but there are so many books I haven't made a dent in their book lists!

(And Carey, in the same ep she made "Funky Fries"...I remembered that part!)

My abs told me to visit and get some more cheese.

Non fiction with some humour: Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Everything" or anything by Bill Bryson (I love everything but the ones talking about language), non fiction: Jared Diamond Germs, Guns and Steel.

For mystery, I would recommend Carol O'Connell's Mallory series.

Carey, I watch her all the time as she is on during the local news...nothing else on to watch!

Some of the recipes in that book have tons of ingredients but I have made 3 dishes from the book and have really enjoyed them. So far so good!

I always wonder though if they can really be made in 30 minutes or less or if it is just sort of edited that way for tv. It takes me 30 minutes just to prep usually.
