Chicken Noodle Soup cheese today. I saw that some Wisconsin cheese factory makes it on tv last night. It's monterey jack with chicken noodle soup flavorings. Weird.
I'm starting to work on holiday plans.
1) Thanksgiving with the in laws. BIL isn't going to see his mother, so we are going by ourselves. Oh well. She'll be sad, but nothing I can do about it. BIL is a big boy that can make his own decisions.
2) Simplifying Thanksgiving dinner. Every year we seem to cut something out. Last year we nixed the rolls (and again this year). This year I'm nixing homemade cranberries. I'd nix the cranberries all together, but I like em on my leftover turkey. So I'm just buying canned. Forgive me Thanksgiving Food Gods, for I have sinned. Turkey frying is still the best thing in the world. The boys deal with the turkey outside and the girls have the whole kitchen and oven for other things.
3) Christmas plans. Holy crap, I think we have Christmas plans in order BEFORE Thanksgiving. That's a first.
4) Christmas cards. I started them last night.
5) Wine party is scheduled for Dec. 8th. About 12 wines with the following food:
ceviche (shrimp & scallop)
cheeses, breads, crackers
dipping oils
olives (for OTHER people, not me)
proscuitto & melon, grapes
chocolate caramel fondue with fruit, macaroons and almond pound cake
6) Christmas cookies. December 9th.
The big question. Holiday Decor. Should it also go up on the 9th? We have nobody coming over for the holidays. Should I bother? Is it just another pack & unpack thing that takes up time?

*runs scared looking for Michelle*
I'm so glad that I have a wife to take care of these things for me.
This is a very broke Christmas. The least I can do for my spirit is decorate... and make dog cookies.
You can't get rid of the rolls! That's my favorite part!
I want christmas cookies!
I vote for nixing the decorations altogether, but I am a complete Grinch so perhaps you don't want to listen to me. :)
And what the heck is a gorby already?! I'm too lazy to google it.
LOL, Jen! A gorby is a tourist in Canada.
See, my problem with the rolls is that they are also my favorite...and thus I have like three with my dinner and feel miserable. We'll have a pack of small buns in the cupboard for turkey sammiches later that night.
LOL. Thanks. I feel complete now.
I don't know why I love the rolls so much. They usually end up getting burned. But I still love them. Ok, I totally have a roll craving right now. *sigh*
Too early, too early, oh my gawd, too early.
Christmas cards already????
There is an advantage to having Thanksgiving in October and that is we don't use the long weekend to put up a Christmas tree.
You people are killing me.
Oh fer heck's sake, stop all this Christmas talk will ya? We haven't even gotten through Thanksgiving. They are frikken playing Christmas Carols on the radio!!!
It pains me that I don't decorate for Christmas anymore. Since the boys don't come here anymore, and we travel for the holidays, it doesn't seem worth it. Besides, with 6 cats and a dog, I'm not sure whether anything would survive LOL.
I may put lights up this year and decorate the front porch. I won't do it until December though. *stand firm*
And, you HAVE to have rolls!!!
Hello! My hips don't need rolls!
Note that I'm not SENDING my Christmas cards yet. By the way, it's the first time in three years I'll get cards out. See, I have to start early or it never gets done.
Cheese chicken noodle soup? Why would you do that to a good soup?
Are you doing your own full turkey dinner too? Or doing it all at the in-laws?
I never have rolls either. They're boring, plus I have stuffing. I don't like cranberries but Tom requires them, also the DD. Fried turkey is weird. And you can't stuff it.
I have put out 3 of those spiral, ropelight "tree" and a lighted reindeer but I haven't actually turned them on yet. That would be premature. I just put them out so I can stake them easily before the ground freezes. I have yet to do my wreathe or garland the front door.
Thank you for inviting me to your wine party. Dec 8 is a very special day for me.
I love Christmas decorations! We put up a fresh cut, huge, balsam fir on the second weekend of December every year and I decorate it happily. I have the very BEST memories of family Christmas from my childhood - so how can I not decorate?
Skipping the rolls sounds good to me. Also, I actually really like the canned cranberries. Fresh cranberries are never much better (if at all).
Fried turkey is beyond yummy, but how do you make gravy since there are no pan drippings? Turkey dinner without gravy is an unsettling thought.
We are going to my aunt's house. I think she wants me to bring mashed potatoes which is the one thing I absolutely CANNOT cook.
Mashed potatoes is a skill I've had to work at. I always overboiled the potatoes. And one year I let them sit in the pan of water after boiling because I made them too soon. Then tried to mash them. Total grainy paste.
Gravy can also be made from a jar of turkey boullion. I still have my jar from last year in the fridge. Hope it's still good!
Swami, care to come & decorate my house?
*scribbles "party @ Weltek & Nolay's" on Dec. 8th on calendar*
I am not even close to ready to deal with anything holiday yet.
Bah humbug!
No problem, Kim. I have enough decorations for a 12 ft tree, but lately we have been getting an 8 ft tree because I feel skeert wayyyy up there on the ladder these days.
Plus I cannibalized my favorite four lights strands down to three. You may need to provide your own lights.
*waves to Lights*
You have started your cards already??? Freak.
*grin*
I can't belive Thanksgiving is next week. YIKES!
Rolls are a must. If you're not doing them, I'll just have to go to Jen's house instead.
Oh, and really, I had no idea one could overcook potatoes. I honestly thought mashed potatoes were the easiest thing to cook?
*confused*
I vote decorations go up. I love watching old Christmas movies or new ones, with all the lights off and the tree lights on. You don't need to have company to do that.
I will second the canned cranberries, especially on turkey!
Breezy is right. I should put up lights anyway. I do love that "mood" it sets.
So, that means swami needs to come & decorate. I have three rubbermaid totes of lights & decor. :-)
I'm with MM, mashed potatoes are easy-breezy! But then I use my steamer to do my potatoes, so I don't worry about overcooking.. That helps alot!
DH is making dinner rolls to sell for THanksgiving.. $5 per dozen. So he'll be busy on Weds while I'm working! BUt then that evening my Dad and his fiance will be having dinner at our house, the first time I will meet her.. oh fun.
