Canadian Slang & Weird Cat

Burrini cheese and french bread for our Canadian themed post today.

A local radio station had a contest for BNL tickets today. Since BNLs are Canadian, the game was "Guess the Canadian Slang." Do YOU know what a gorby is? Now I do. The caller made a good guess and got it right, so that was the end of the game. Boo. They said they'd play again tomorrow, so I'll try to bring you more Canadian fun words. :-)

My big kitty is weird. She just started this odd habit of moving the heavy ceramic water dish...full of water. Splish splash. Water all over. She puts her paw inside the dish and pulls on it.
Problem solving attempts:

1. I took it off the rubber mat, thinking the mat was bothering her. Nope. The water dish ended up about 3 feet away.

2. I've made sure the water dish is full when she goes to drink. Still not satisfactory. It only lead to more water being spilled.

3. Less water in the dish? Nope.

So now, I think I need to try a new bowl. The current one has high sides. Maybe one with lower sides will please Her Highness.

LMAO. Our kitten plays in the water dish after you fill it. I'm talking about damn near bathing in it. Then it's all good. Until you fill it up again. *sigh*

Good luck. When you figure it out, let me know. My middle cat has always done this. I've thought about crazy gluing the bowl to the ground but Michelle isn't big on that idea.

I got a filtered water fountain for my kitties. One of the kitties may dip their paws into the water once in a while but they don't move the thing nor do they bathe in it.

They have also started drinking from the dog's water dish. Which is funny because it's on a raised thing so they have to really stretch up to reach the water.

What the heck is a gorby?

I knew Nookie would have a suggestion!

I will tell you this: I was a gorby this summer.

My kitten likes to drink from a freshly flushed toilet. Drives me nuts. I've considered just pushing her all the way in and closing the lid for a while but I wasn't sure if that was behaviour modification or cruelty to animals.

I think you should get a really big water dish and float some toys in it. Maybe a large baking pan? Kitties just want to have fun.

I've seen those water fountains like Nookie has for sale. They are kind of cool and would maybe count as a water feature, home decor-wise.

Great, so my property taxes will go up.

Just take the entire bowl away from kitty and leave the toilet seat up.

I'd like to see any kitty try and move a toilet bowl!!!

And what the heck is a gorby?

Gorby? What part of Canada is that slang in? Cape Breton? Yeesh.

DH wants to get one of those fountain things for the cats.

kim (weltek) said...

Seana...you are not a gorby.

I Googled gorby. I have been one in the very province of it's origin. I'm so lucky.

Kim, are you saying you resemble Mikhail? I beg to differ because I think you're very cute.

Heehee - I think I know what a gorby is. You're one and I'm not, and neither is frisky, or the LePews, or Byoffer, or Meemo. . .

Am I right?

Yup!

my friend had this exact problem with his cat, Fred.

I wont' tell you how we came to this particular conclusion, but it did indeed work.

He put clean shiny pebbles in the bowl -- decorative ones that he got at Target or something.

Fred hasn't moved the bowl since. :-)

*scratches head* It's worth a shot, I guess!

The whole cat bowl thing has me in tears as I have been picturing the cat moving it! HEHEHE!

Kahlua sends wet nose smooches to the gorby!

Please tell me I'm not a gorby either!

Holly is afraid of water. No way she'd ever play in her water bowl. She's like that dog on "Funny Videos" that starts dog paddling as soon as you hold her above a glass of water. *rolls eyes*

See, and I have no idea what a 'gorby' is. Maybe it means 'cat that dabbles in water bowls'.

Minic just called me into his room about half an hour ago because PITA was trying to push him off his own bed. That cat has no sense of boundaries.
