Last Night & Cheating

Two separate subjects...don't worry. :-) Have some fried mozzarella sticks.

We had a fun night on Valentine's Day. We both got haircuts (wild, I know). Then we hit State Street (downtown Madison). First stop: Buffalo Wild Wings (formerly BW3s). It was stupid-busy due to it being .35 wing night. We did manage to grab a table though & played trivia, ate wings & drank lots of big beers. Watched gaggles of college girls walk by eating ice cream. Saw a drug deal take place between a mentally challenged woman & large man. Ah, good times. Then it was off to a funky Mexican bar/restaurant for Sangria. Then to my very favorite bar: Paul's Club. It's dark, lots of leather couches & chairs, and a fake tree that encompasses the whole bar. Outstanding bartender & drink selection.

By then we were schnookered and headed back to the hotel. And that's all you need to know.
;-)

On a completely unrelated note, the professor I work with had me investigate a graduate student's potential plagiarism. It was for a class paper, so not an article or dissertation, but still not good to be a plagiarising grad student. At least four pages of material was verbatim plagiarised from three different sources. Found it just by using Google. Ugh. I don't envy the professor, nor the student. I'd feel more sympathy for the student if it were an undergrad & it was a general course, but this is a graduate student in the course of their intended career.

I think I shall nibble on a cookie from my cookie basket. There are truffles, too.

What will happen to the student?

Sounds like a great and fun night. So who tells the student they found out?

My boss emailed the student & said "this doesn't sound like you...remember you must use quotation marks around anything from another source and cite it as such in your bib." She hasn't yet heard back from the student, who is likely in a panic right now. I imagine the student will fail the assignment & possible the course (which is a required course). I doubt she'll get booted from her program, but may have to retake the course with a high amount of scrutiny to her work.

LOL! I don't know if I would have had the stamina to ";-)" after all that drinking, so good for you two!

Sounds like a much needed night of fun for you guys. Good job!

What a fun night. *smooches*

How's the hair lok?

Even if the grad student is not booted from the program, I can't imagine that s/he would be allowed to stick around to do a dissertation. Sounds like a terminal MA in the works to me.

You may be right, HD.

Oh, and my hair looks ok, carey. She used a combo of traditional old-skool layering and new techniques. It's much bouncier.

YAY! Glad you had a fun time. I too would have had trouble ";-)" after all that booze. Kudos for not falling victim to the dreaded "whiskey ####" and "scotch #####."

thndrkttn <----envious of your fun night.

Sounds like you had a great night!

At my college, the student would likely be dropped from the program. If it were the first offense, they might just drop her from the class. I suppose it depends what the policy there is.

Wow. Drama with the student.

Glad you had fun last night.

A grad student?

They should be suspended at the very least and should definetly fail the course.

There is just no excuse at that level.

How nice that things went well for you two last night.

*happy for you*

Some things really amaze me. One is plagarising. And a grad student. How could you do something knowing it would destroy your credibility forever? Wow.
