I suppose they would go well with camembert & sliced baguette.
I'm not such a fan of these, but Chris picked some up last weekend. He'd never had them & didn't know I wasn't a fan of the asian pear. I choked one down yesterday.
I need to look them up on the web. Are they a hybrid of a pear & apple? I always assumed so. But maybe they are just a native fruit to Asia? That would explain the asian part. Or did some asian researcher develop the hybrid? So many questions, so many yucky asian pears.
Tell me about yoru favorite fruits. You don't have to get all exotic on me unless you want to.

I will eat pretty much any fruit. I guess my favorites would be kiwis or strawberries or bananas or pears or mangos or peaches or nectarines. *grin*
Never heard of an asian pear. But i bet I would like it.
Mmm...nectarines. I'm also partial to honey dew melon. I associate it with my grandmother. I'm not sure why.

Pears should not be crunchy!
I love pears but never buy them because they never seem ripe enough. I like my pears sweet and juicy *grin*
I'm not a big fruit eater. I do love cantaloupe and watermelon.
Nookie, I had a pear issue, too. Grandma always seemed to buy them & I loved them. However, when it was time for me to grocery shop, I was pear-paralyzed. They all looked too green, or too overripe & bruised.
I've learned green is ok for D'Anjou pears. I just look for those that feel a tiny bit soft & let them ripen at home for a few days. Bartlett pears are usually ok if they are semi-firm and aren't overly bruised.
I've made the mistake of only buying yellow/red soft bartlett pears & they were mushy & overripe in a day.
I eat a pear at least every other day right now. :-)

I have resigned myself to never buying pears. Whenever I would test them for ripeness, I'd put my fingernail through it LOL.
Pineapple rawks. Especially when garnishing my drink.
Dominic hates pineapple. I don't know why.. he has never touched it, ever. I love it.
I also adore Asian pears, but my favourite fruit is probably cherries.
You don't buy pears ripe for some rason. Maybe because they bruise too easily. They ripen nicely after a few days at home, though. Just choose pears with as few blemishes as possible and leave them alone until you're ready to eat them.

I love strawberries, pineapple and grapes (the red ones, mostly, but green will do in a pinch). And tomatoes, obviously. I fill my back garden with them. When you eat a ripe, fresh tomato from the garden, you know why they're a fruit and not a veggie. They're quite sweet. If you've only had a tomato from the store, even those vine-ripened ones, you haven't had a real one.

Oh, not being big on pears in general, I don't really like the Asian variety. If, in fact, they are a variety of pear and not something else entirely.

Strawberries, the little fraise bu bois ones are so yummy!
Cherries and peaches evoke my childhood, so I like them too.
I love blueberries and cranberries in pastry.
I am not overly fond of pineapple, but I love grilled pineapple!
Clementines & oranges are lovely.
Bananas are boring. Apples and pears are my least favorite fruits.
And of course, I couldn't cook without fresh limes.
Never had one. What do they taste like?

And sonya, asian pears have a pear taste, but apple texture. It's weird. The skin tastes awful to me. It's a little dry & rough.
