...and it shows. I need to stop the madness!
Apple pie: Made a crumb topped apple pie and it was the best apple pie evah! Didn't even use a fancy recipe-Just Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook, with pecans added to the crumb. I used our home grown apples that I'd held over in the crisper drawer from September harvest. I think those apples were the key.
Tastefully Simple: Was looking at buying some fall/winter items for myself and gifts, but holy hell have their prices gone up. I'm not buying an $8.00 box of pumpkin bread mix. I like it, but it's gone up $2.00 a box since three years ago. No way!
Smoked deviled eggs: Rumor has it they are good. I have no evidence, but would like to try them.

Apple Pie: What? No Snickers?
TS: I attended a party at the end of September and stocked up on my Onion, Onion, and the Fiesta Dip. I also bought a cheese and chive warm diip. I had previously bought the Caesar and was very disappointed. I don't think I've ever even looked at the other stuff because of the prices. The host of that party wanted me to host one, which I declined. Then another friend hosted one and invited me. Not going, especially four weeks after the other one.
Deviled Eggs: You won't get me to try them. I'm so super picky and will only eat my SIL's.
I passed on making the chocolate pecan one staring at me from a magazine because of the calories/fat, so I couldn't justify adding caramel and snickers!
When I was selling TS, I knew there were some things I'd never pay that price for, but it was a handful of items (e.g., $7 jar of jam). Now, it's about half the items I think are way too overpriced.
The home party business is getting out of control with prices. Part of the reason I quit is I heard so many women "spent all the grocery money" or "don't tell my husband how much I spent." It actually felt really bad to go home with those kinds of sales. It's a stretch to say this contributes to the middle class debt:income problem, but it's a reality that it's expensive, it's generally things we don't need/above the level we need, and there's pressure to buy involved either from just being with your friends, hostess or salesperson.
BUT, there are people that can still easily afford these items and smart business provide what those people want: fun things they can't easily get in the store. Plus there's the social "party" aspect.
