Diet starting

I've gained far too much weight over the last 18 months. Pants are getting too tight. So, it's time. I'm on a work trip now, so the timing is horrible. I'm actually iritated that we keep going out to eat and I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere. I've at least been mostly good at meals. No booze, no apps or dessert, red sauces, whole wheat, etc. I even avoided french onion soup at lunch today, which is my favorite.

Wish me luck. If I can slowly lose 10 lbs over the next few months, I'll be happy.

2.5 lbs per week is healthy to lose and easier to keep off.

You'll do fine. Oddly enugh, eating more is key but in a certain way and following actual serving size. Does that sound "preachy"? I don't mean to sound "preachy".

2 protein (3 on maintenance)
1 dairy (2 on maintencance) 2 ozs cheese is considered 1 serviing - thought you'd like to know about the cheese
2 starch (3 on maintenance)
3 fruit (4 or 5 on maintence - 3 oz of wine count as a fruit)
4 veggie (unlimited on maintence - corn is not a veggie, its a starch)

and lots and lots of water.

I lost 30 lbs this way. Over the last couple of years I have gained about 12 back but that's because I went a little crazy during vacations and didn't try to lose the weight afterwards.

Corn is a veggie on my plan. *grin*

I agree with the eating more key, but you have to eat more of the right stuff.

Thanks for the support, ladies. My biggest key is to stop making BAD food decisions. That doesn't mean I have to make the BEST food decisions all the time, just not really BAD ones. The last two days have been ok. For example, while I probably should've had scrambled egg beaters for breakfast out yesterday, I had two poached eggs and whole wheat toast, no butter. Not great, but not the worst, either. Then a greek salad with 1 Tbsp dressing and feta (otherwise just veggies, no olives) and a slice of bread, and for dinner a plain McDonald's hamburger and apple dippers. Other times I ordered fish, a whole wheat pancake, a soup and salad combo, etc.So given everything I could have eaten on the road with my coworkers, I feel like I did ok.

Now, I'm back home and will have an easier time with meals, but a harder time staying away from unhealthy snacks at work. Having the giant cafeteria downstairs is my downfall. Even when I bring healthy snacks, I sometimes wander downstairs. That part is mental and I need to get over it.

You can borrow my children, if you like.

I can not sit down with a plate, bowl, cup, snifter or flagon of anything without two little moochy mouths appearing and eating half of whatever I have.

If you get snacky, try doing something else before going to grab a snack. I was at the mall yesterday and saw a picture of an eggroll and decided that I needed an eggroll. I began the quest to find the eggroll place, but passed the paper store first, so I ducked in to get invitations for the kids' birthday party. (Which was why I went to the mall in the first place.)

When I came out and resumed the search for the eggroll joint I decided I didn't really want an eggroll anymore and just wandered around the mall for a while before heading home. (It was cold and rainy here yesterday and I needed to get out of my house.)

A lot of time for me those snack cravings are boredom, not actual hunger, so distracting myself with something else usually works. (However, I do not have a cafeteria in my basement so that helps.)

Word, Fro. You are right, it's often boredom, or just needing a change of direction. At work, a trip to the cafeteria is a good excuse to get up and move around. I need to forget the cafeteria and just do the moving part!

Lots of luck from me.

I have something I'm going to scan and send to you that Kevin (my trainer) gave to me. I think it's a little like what MC is posting here.

Dieting is easier in winter than in summer. Good luck!

I'm making an Indian beef dish right now. Want some? Skip the rice (which I won't make til dinner time) and it's quite a healthy, low-cal meal.

I have to cook it now because I won't get back from playing cards until almost supper time.

Boo, your trainer gave you the same info? Crikey! I had to pay 600.00 to get mine.

Good luck, Kim! I feel your pain. When the "go-to" pants are too tight, life sucks.

My go-to pants are too tight. ACK!

You and me both, baby. I have my yearly physical on Friday and I had 6 weeks post-vacation to lose weight. Nada.
