Busy week

Our second annual rib cookoff is this weekend. Mmmmm, ribs. Lots to do in the meantime around the house. In addition to a rib entry (admittedly, Chris's are better than mine, but his are smoked, mine are not due to me wanting to offer another entry in the non-smoked category). I'm also making homemade baked beans in the bean pot and some peanut butter bars with chocolate icing (they are kinda like those ones from the school cafeteria).

School is uber busy. I just keeping thinking how short summer classes are. I hope time flies.

My 3 Day fundraising is slow. So many of my donors from last time are either between jobs or had cuts in their paychecks. Sigh. I have to redouble my efforts next week.

My perennial beds aren't very colorful right now. Two bright asian lilies are about ready to bloom, which will help one area. Otherwise, not much action. I bought one flat of annuals to perk up a few beds, but those didn't go very far. I refuse to spend any more on annuals.

1. *sigh* I freaking love ribs. I don't know where my obsession with them came from, but I swear I could eat them every night. I may have to get Chili's this week.

2. Sorry about school. It's summer. You're supposed to take off.

3. I still need to donate to you. And with the addition of my four local friends, I now have six of you to donate to.

3. Hopefully it will pick up for you. I can relate to your pain. So many of my donors from last year are laying people off right now. No way I would have bene able to get them.

4. On Sunday I pulled up all of my Celosia that was destroyed in that storm two weeks ago. It killed me to do it, but they were beyond help. I also had to pull so many weeds - especially through the lattice under the porch. It amazes me what can grow there.

I was able to save some geraniums. So now I am debating on what to do as far as redoing it. I'm not very happy that they were ruined and don't want to go through that again with another storm. My hasta also were damaged by hail. Ugh.

My daylilies are on the cusp of blooming, but it's very odd because everyone else's everywhere else are in full bloom and have been for a couple of weeks. Mine are taking their time.

I love Celosia. Great, bold colors. Sorry you had to pull them. :-( What a difference our locations make. My daylilies are probably 3 weeks from blooming.

I bought a flowering maple bush this weekend that I'm supposed to take inside for the winter. It was only $10, so we'll see if that happens. It's about 3 ft. high and has big red flowers all spring through summer, and that's what I wanted. Height & color.

Weltek, what's the site for donations?

I'm this | | close!!!!

I'm so sick of the rain. Why does it have to rain for days?

Starshine said...

Just not in your league as far as Farkle goes though Boo.

Yep I had a scare last year, fortunately a false alarm, however it made me appreciate people like you more for doing things like this.

I'm still checking blogs! I prefer blogs to facebook. I hope you both do well in the cookoff!

We had ribs on Wednesday night, and there's enough left over for me to have some again tonight! I don't like beans though. I make plain rice and then scrape some of the saucey goo from the bottom of the ribs pan onto the rice. Yummy!

Summer school classes are always short, but they can be really hectic while they last.

My Showy Ladyslippers are blooming. (These are a fairly rare wild orchid that is MN's state flower.) I planted zero annuals in my garden this year. Instead I planted some in baskets & pots and put them right in front of where I look out the windows, so I see lots of flowers every time I look out the windows.

OMG Ladyslippers, I miss those. I haven't seen any in ages. Please take pics Swami and post on your blog, please?

Mmmm, ribs. I want to be a judge. *drools*
I hardly spend anytime on blogs anymore. I'm bad. :(
Kim, I know you posted a link below but will you send me an email with the link? Ask Breezy, without reminders in my email I lag.

Thanks to you, I had ribs on Wednesday night. I ordered a whole rack, but only ate half. I thought Michael would eat the other half, but he didn't. So now I'm having those for lunch.

I love ribs!

I still check blogs because apparently I am the last person on earth who is not on Facebook.

I have spent way too much money on annuals this year, but tending to the flower gardens is therapeutic (or so I tell myself). :-)

I am addicted to lantanas and vincas. They do very well in the heat and drought of Maryland summers.

For those of you who still check blogs *grin* I hope to put up pictures next week.

Augie, I go to blogs first. We planted some vincas about a month ago and they're doing wonderfully. They've grown and spread very well. Just like me. *grin*
