This weekend

Well, since my trip was cancelled, I have a weekend alone! It's rare this happens anymore. Here are my plans:

-I have to dig up my next book for class at a library so I can sink my teeth in this weekend.

-I have about an hour of work to do on a paper by Saturday night.

-I want to try two "gift in a jar" recipes to see if they are gift worthy. I tried rice, brownies, coffee creamer and soup so far. The gingerbread coffee creamer was a loser. The rice is good. The soup is average. The brownies are average, but easily improved. I have a hot chocolate recipes that will be a winner. I need to find a main dish type jar to try and also the best beer bread recipe. I've tried one and it wasn't even close to as good as Tastefully Simple's beer bread.

-I need to sweep asian beetles in the basement.

-I might sneak a little Christmas shopping in tonight. I'm giving the ladies in my family the Debbie Meyer green bags and bread bags, among a few other things. Seems like a simple, fun thing to pick up tonight.

Oh, and I think my MIL got fired from her post-retirement part-time gig. Or she quit. At any rate, she's not working at the post office anymore (I think it lasted two weeks). I'm not surprised, as she's losing her mind and isn't well suited for many jobs. Too bad, though. In far northern Wisconsin, it was probably the best paying part-time job she could hope for.

I thought the post office was the perfect job for such minds. *grin*

I have often thought about doing jars, but the only thing I could think of that would work was hot chocolate.

I think cheese in a jar would be a great choice. Not.

Here's a website that has a ton of recipes - http://www.nikibone.com/recipe/gifts_in_a_jar.html

Or you could always make bonsai kittens.

I've been alone since Wednesday! So far loving it, although I didn't sleep very well last night. There was no arm around me. *pout*

Funny you should mention the bonsai kittens and gifts in a jar...my friend said last night he wants a "B in a Jar" for Christmas from me. B is our cat. I said I'd need a really big jar.

That's the beauty of bonsai. You start them when they're kittens. It avoids that whole "big jar" thing.
:P

You could also try gifts in a jar that aren't food. You could do a "bath in a jar" with a little soap, a little washcloth, bath salt, a little pouf, and a candle or something like that.

Or just bath salts, topped with a pouf gift tag.

Or Christmas decorations in a jar (little ornaments and string and beads for "decorate your own" type tree ornaments?

Or "romantic evening in a jar" for couples? Candles, a tiny massage oil or lotion, some sort of "bath for two" product and give it with a bottle of wine? (Okay, this one isn't as inspired.)

For a guy you could give "fix-it in a jar." Duct tape, nails, glue, tape measure. (Stuff the gets lost all the time.)

Spring garden in a jar? (Seeds, plant food, garden tags?)

For a kid you could do an art project in a jar. Crayons or makers, glitter pens, finger paint?

Chex Mix?

I think your hormones are raging with creativity, Frodis! I'm impressed! My in laws could definitely use a few fix it type jars (a little super glue, goo gone, etc. would also be a good thing to include).

Yeah, super glue and goo gone!

Actually, thanks to your jar gifts plan, I think I might make a "new baby in a jar" jar for my friend who is due in a few weeks. Desitin, baby tylenol, baby gas drops, travel sized baby lotion, hand sanitizer, individually wrapped wipes, q-tips... Actually, that stuff might be better in something she can put into a diaper bag for on-the-go. Hmm.

I never get weekends alone. I'd actually pay for one about now. *grin*

Can somebody send me some motivation for Christmas shopping? I have absolutely none. I thought that the snow outside would help but all it has done is make things wet and white.

I got a little shopping bug this weekend. The last few years I set aside one day and one evening after work to do all my shopping. I ended up frustrated because I couldn't find everything. So this year, I'm spreading it out and tackling a little each week.
