Herbed goat cheese and thin, crispy crackers today.
Have any of you participated in community supported ag farms by purchasing shares? My health insurance provider offers a $200 rebate on share purchases. My sister and I are splitting a full share and are each getting the $200 rebate (total cost for a share is $470, so only a $35 investment each for the whole season-18 weeks).
We get one delivery each week June-October of whatever is in season. This will be fun! You'll have to help me find ways to use some really strange veggies. :-)

I've never had goat cheese. Is it good? Are there other cheeses like it?
I have never heard of this community ag thing.
I've never heard of this.... I want some veggies!
Goat cheese and sheep's milk cheese taste very similar, nutz. They are soft and spreadable. Feta is a form, but more pungent than most. They usually come in small logs at the grocery store in the specialty cheese section.
Breezy, they have half shares and such, too. Here's a link the the Michigan CSAs:

This is a really cool idea. My hubby would probably love this. He's currently attempting a vegetable garden in the backyard...if that doesn't work out, I may see if there any of these around here.
I've never heard of this. Is it like a co-op?
I will not make any crude remarks about what to do with certain veggies. I won't.
Funny, I was reminded of an email Carey sent me recently while reading this.
*sits with the non-goat cheese eaters*
LOL @ Lightsy.
Oh, and I don't like goat cheese.
It's kind of like a co-op. The farm is a business, just like any other, although it subsits largely for the purpose of providing its goods to shareholders. It also relies on some people to exchange volunteer hours for shares. This helps supplement their labor force. So as a consumer, you can either buy a share, or work at the farm for a few hours every week in exchange for your share.
Some people in my DD's school did this every year. They claimed that they more than got their money's worth, but they never knew just what veggies they would get each week. Plus they had to show up at a certain place and time every week. I thought it looked like a pain. Just go to the Farmer's Market when you want and get what veggies YOU want, totally fresh.
I only eat 4 or 5 veggies. I would have plenty to give away.
Let's see: corn, green beans, broccoli, lettuces . . that's about all.
I'm lucky...there are about 25 pick up points, one by my office, one by Chris's office and one on the way to my sister's house.
Count me in as someone who has not heard of this program. Verrry interesting.
