TGIF!!!!!!!!!

Ugh, I'm so glad it's Friday. Omelets for all! I have egg beaters and low fat cheese for us dieters, but the regular stuff for those that turn their noses at our fake food.

A list for Boo, because I haven't loved Boo enough lately:

1. I picked up about 20 paint sample strips, but forgot to look at them last night.

2. I should have the dresser and entertainment center piece tonight. *hop*

3. My FIL and his wife are coming to stay for the weekend. They are judges for the chili-cookoff tomorrow at our friend's house.

4. For some reason, we decided to plow ahead with winter/spring vacation plans. I'm way on board with this, however, I am not sure if it's intended to be our only vacation for the year. I hope not. We are looking at the Miami, FL area because I really want warm and inexpensive. We are likely going to use airline miles for the tickets, stay at a $450/week condo (through the Armed Forces Vacation Club), and rent a midsized car, so should be a cheap trip. Figure $1800 when all is said and done. Seems like a lot, though, for a "cheap" trip. But it is a week long and there's a lot to do in the area. I've never been through the Everglades, so that's definitely on our list. I'm trying to be more excited about it, because it's a warm vacation in Feb....I'm just having a hard time being excited about Florida when there are so many other places I'd like to visit. We aren't locked in to anything yet, so I'm going to poke around today.

Miami? Cheap? *snort* If I may, can I suggest you go somewhere else in Florida... the Keys maybe? I wasn't impressed with the Miami area.

Well, I'd suggest Dallas, but it's not really warm in February here.

Ooh! Go to Orlando and go to Disney!!!!

The lodging is super expensive in the Keys (it was my preference for this vacation, so we looked). The cheap places all sound dirty and yucky.

I definitely will take your thumbs down under advisement. Has anyone been/known someone that's been to New Orleans in the last year? Chris is concerned it wouldn't be back up to snuff.

And, for once, I'm not hungry...I have 2 Breakfast Jacks and half of a breakfast burrito from Jack in the Box that I'm chowing down on.

Momma, any thoughts about the Galveston area? There were reasonable condos there through AFVC.

DH & I will probably be in Miami the weekend of January 26th so do let me know if you end up going there cause we can finally meet. He wants to run the Miami marathon on the 27th.

And, we may drive down so if you decide to stay somewhere else in FL, we may be able to stop over for a visit wherever you are.

I have always loved Galveston, but the time to play tourist there in cooler weather is in December so you can visit Dickens on the Strand. If you want to do the beach touristy type thing, you may want to check out Padre Island or Corpus Christi.

San Antonio has the Riverwalk - awesome and very touristy area, complete with shops, the river, German town type areas and all kinds of stuff.

*pout* I still don't have a jack in the box antenna ball.

You could stay in the panhandle portion, I know there's a military thingy there. My bro is stationed close to it.

Can I suggest San Diego? I want to visit there, I hear it's nice.

kim (weltek) said...

I briefly considered San Diego. I might need to research that.

Head a little north, to Ft Lauderdale or West Palm Beach area. They are much cheaper too. Plus my dad and sister live there.

My sister is nothing like me, if that helps. *grin* She is a biker chick.

We might head down there for Spring Break, but not until around March 21 or so

Pbbt-he didn't tell me Mexico all-inclusives were also part of afvc. We could only get one free ticket, but totally worth the $650 other ticket for a $329 all inclusive/week, IMHo.

My brother is going to New Orleans on Monday. I'll ask him how it's doing. He's been there before so he'll be able to compare. For the record, it may not be Miami-warn there depending on when you go. I was there in January/February once and it was jacket-necessary.

I'm jealous. I LOVE trip planning but I don't see us taking one for a while.

Do you have a lot of airline miles? Depending on the airline, they may be able to be converted to hotel points to take the edge off of your hotel stay. Mr Fro and I stayed 11 nights in Australia/New Zealand for almost nothing. (We paid for 2 nights at the first hotel in Sydney.)

San Diego is nice. Other places to consider - Arizona, Mexico, caribbean islands (there are some all inclusive and fairly cheap resorts in places like the dominican republic. )

Done deal then, I would do the Mexico all inclusive.

kim (weltek) said...

Thanks, Frodis. I'd appreciate your brother's point of view.

momma said...

Oooooh! I would do the Mexico all inclusive, too.

We're going to Cuba for the first two weeks of november.

Oh - never mind.

*runs out of thread*

I'm with the Breeze. Miami sucks. The rudest people on the planet and it costs a fortune.
I too vote for Mexico. Some of my best vacations have been in Mexico. and the good thing is that you can make your spending money really stretch out there. That's my 2 cents/

Mexico would be my second choice for you. My place would be much less expensive (although slightly cooler). *grin*

Ackkkkk!! Paint is a BAD word right at the moment.

My vote: the Everglades! I've seen some pictures of Bigfoot that were taken there. :D

Hey Kim!!! My ex-boss just got back from a South Florida vacation. He and his wife went to Miami, the Keys and Naples. Said Naples was the absolute best. Said he'd move there in a heartbeat.

kim (weltek) said...

Well, Mexico won't work. Through AFVC you have to pay EXTRA for the all-inclusiveness and that makes it far more expensive than other options.

Hadn't heard much about Naples, momma. Thanks for the tip.

Df, I remember disliking Ft. Lauderdale when I was a kid. It seemed tired & run down. Has it changed?

LOL-if we end up going to the Everglades, I will indeed look for bigfoot, MM.
