Putting on my grumpy pants

Blue cheese mixed with herbs and cream cheese, spread on baguettes and broiled til warm & gooey.

I'm usually the easygoing person and I don't let much get to me. However, happenings on OT have been getting to me. My tolerance is waning. I know many of you have already gone through this, but I guess I'm just more patient. :-)

1. The increased amount of scathing indignant comments has been really bothering me. There's a nice way to voice your opinions. Why bring it to the scathing level? Maybe that's just who those people are. I don't tend to like rudeness and self-importance oozing from people. Maybe that really IS a significant part of some people's personalities IRL and the nice stuff I've seen before is only a small part of the whole person.

2. Gun talk. I don't know the right answer. My feelings on guns have changed over the years and I feel bad about that, for Chris's sake more than anything. When he was in the military, his buddies would get together and pleasure shoot. I was ok with that. Dad was a hunter so guns didn't scare me. I plinked with the boys sometimes. But those were grown men. Now Chris talks about taking my niece & nephew plinking with the guns they'd use for squirrel hunting and letting their dad shoot our pistol at the same time. I'm pretty sure teaching the kids "it's fun to plink around with guns" is not a good idea. I'm on board with them sighting in a .22 for the squirrel hunting their dad likes to do and learning how to use it. I'm not ok with them seeing Uncle Chris and Dad playing around with a pistol. I think Chris is irritated my view has become more "shapen" on this subject.

3. I'm becoming ok with NOT wanting to meet everyone on OT. I have no desire, for example, to hang out with Ante Bellum. Would I say hello to her at a peep meet? Sure. Do I have enough info to safely say I don't think we'd ever be buds? Yep. I'd rather spend my energy on others. There are about three people that are regular posters where I've quit reading their posts. I used to read everyones because some people change or have at least some things I agree on. I've found there's a few people that I'm best off ignoring completely.

I'll end on a better note:
I'm still excited about another peep meet. The last one was so great, even though I didn't *heart* everyone there. I was able to get to know some awesome peeps I'd otherwise I have missed out on and got to see some of my very favorite peeps. Yay for the new 2007 Peep Meet...wherever it may be!

1. Re: The scathing indignant comments. Just suck it up would you. That's the way I am, and you'd better damn well like it :-)

2. I'm Canadian. We don't have guns up here, and they frighten me anyways.

3. Wait, you're talking about me aren't you? *glares*

It's okay to not like everybody, or want to be friends with them. It would be impossible to do so.

That's your prerogative. *channels Britney Spears and Bobby Brown*

As for the peep meet, I would love to make it to another, but with the expanding family, and a DW who isn't overly interested in my internet friends, it will be very difficult to do so. I'll just have to live vicariously through you :-)

*smooch*

Well Meemo, hopefully in 08 or 09 we can circle back to the east coast and maybe you'll be able to make it then. You'll be sorely missed.

Hey, did I mention that I updated my blog? First time in 6 weeks. Yay for me!

1. There are and have always been some very nasty peeps there.

2. Pleasure shooting? *shudder* That is sooooooooooooo wrong. :-(

3. There are plenty of peeps online that I have no desire to meet. You however, are on top of my MUST-MEET peep. *smooch*

Ditto to number 3 nookie. It's 2007 or bust. Somehow, I'm meeting you next year. Hopefully in Seattle! *crosses fingers*

1. I really am appalled at the number of you who do like Nacho cheese Doritos instead of Cool Ranch.

2. I am terrified of guns. I do believe in ownership rights and all but the way to get licensed needs to be tightnend up.

3. I don't think I will ever get a peep meet. :(

Are grumpy pants found in Target or WalMart?

Swami said...

What is this OT of which you speak?

I don't mind guns. I just don't like most gun-owners, lol.

I've had one peep meet and two near misses.

Zombs said...

I am scared of people with guns that won't like it if I park in a family friendly spot.

I bought my grumpy pants at JC Penny. Pooh alerted me to them.

LMAO *spits diet coke with lime all over screen* Swami!!! *snort* If you only knew the new tag line that you just copied with a twist. *snort* *gigglesnort*

I have gigglepants today.

kim (weltek) said...

*snort* I didn't think about that, Breezy! Nice job, Swami!

Breezy said...

That's me. Always thinking! hmmmmmm I wonder if there's any cookies in the kitchen.

1. I'm sorry for the times I come across as scathing and indignant and rude.

2. I've stayed out of that mess, but I agree with a couple of comments I saw: (1) Even if concealed carry is legal, some people do not have the maturity or disposition to safely carry a gun; (2) Many folks who do not need to carry a gun because of their job simply do so because they think it makes them look like hot shit (though they really just look like a shithead); (3) Many responsible people own and carry guns and I respect their right to do so, though I appreciate it when they respect my desire not to own or carry a gun myself. (I feel the same way about hunting, especially having been raised in a hunting family. It's not for me, but I'm not going to stand in the way of my father and brother doing it.)

3. Nobody likes everybody. Personally, I like Ante and find her interesting, even if I don't always agree with her. It's more than obvious that there is one person that I absolutely cannot stand. There are three that I would never want to meet --- and a fourth who is on the verge of joining the list. I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours.

Um, I wasn't at the peep meet. I'm not sure how you had a nice time without me there?

*drops pants*
Oh. That's not what you meant.

And HD, although sometimes I think you may have come across as scathing, it's not your immediate reaction. The people that come to mind often pop in with an immediate knee jerk response that sounds full of hatred. So yeah, there might have been times where I was like "ouch" when you've said something, but it's usually not without yoru uninsulting feedback to posters first. I can respect that.

We had a nice time talking about you, Bob.

I think we are really doing the Elaine dance from SEinfeld.

I like scathing people, but only when they agree with me.

So who am I "copying"? Anybody I know?

*takes grumpy pants off*
*puts on tutu of happiness* Nobody can be grumpy in a tutu.

I forgot to mention that even though they are not on my "naughty" list, there are a couple of veteran posters from "the good old days" before I arrived that I just do not understand the attraction. They are not all that active any longer, but every time they make a comment at all everybody else falls all over them to kiss their asses and I just wonder why.

HistoryDetective said...

Oh, and I meant I would tell you in a PM, not in public. There are some things I won't do in front of other people.

*touches HD's bell*

Does that mean you are doing the grumpy pants dance?
Saturday I asked HD what the heck he was thinking meeting with a certain OT poster. :)
You definitely don't have to like everyone. I have a few people who I would never be friends with. Or at the very least, some people that I'd hurt myself rolling my eyes at.
I haven't opened the gun thread at all.

kim (weltek) said...

LOL at Debs hurting herself rolling eyes!

kim (weltek) said...

I think Swami should just go see OT for herself.

HistoryDetective said...

I disagree, Kim. If Swami has managed to extricate herself, then there's no need to jump back into the pit.

*worries that Kim really doesn't like me*

Nah, what's not to like about me? *giggle*

While I have no problem with hunting, I cringe at the thought of living somewhere where concealed handguns are common. *shudder* Dave has a couple of rifles (legally registered thanks to our wonderfully effective gun laws). They're locked up in a safe place and seldom see the light of day. I've even shot them at targets in the sandpit a few times.

The Niagara peep meet was probably the best weekend I spent this entire year. I'll never forget it. Ever. I didn't necessarily make a connection with EVERYONE but it was interesting to meet them all.

Maroonclown was the most pleasant surprise for me. I'm not around OT as much as I used to be and hadn't had a chance to get to "know" her prior to the weekend. If I hadn't gone to Niagara I may have missed out on her because I don't always have time to read EVERYONE's posts and sometimes skim over people I don't know that well.

I hope the 2007 Peep Meet happens and everyone has as much fun as we did. I have my doubts that I'll be able to attend (unless I win on the three scratch tickets I got today) but that's okay. Another year. I have enough great memories from Niagara to get me through.

1. I, too, hate the rudeness and self-importance. And the arrogance. Among other things.

2. Guns - no interest in them whatsoever.

3. Peep meets - there are many peeps I would not want to meet, but I've enjoyed every peep meet so far. I *loved* meeting you and Chris! Bloggy peeps are the best!

Breezy said...

Because I pay them to kiss my ass.

Breezy said...

Now look what you did! Sophie is back. Should we introduce her to Smooth?

*runs into blog and dives, arms open, on Lightsey*

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

After reading this post I was getting all paranoid that I wasn't *hearted* at Niagara.

I feel like I'm in the "in" crowd now. Keeping my fingers crossed for Chicago.

*smiles big until it hurts*

Oh, and I have no opinion on guns although it was rather interesting to read how that thread devolved.

kim (weltek) said...

*snort* You can't blame Sophie on me!

MC-You were DEFINITELY a suprise highlight of the Niagara trip! I agree with lights!

Aislinn Sirk said...

You said good things right?

Well not really bad things..

You made fun of my cheese habit, didn't you?

I haven't seen the thread where Sophie posted, but if she's back, LET'S GET THE BANANA BACK FROM HER!
