Dinner Exchange

Fresh from my weekend trip to the apple orchard, we are having Honeycrisp apples and sharp cheddar.

I had a decent weekend. We finished lots on the patio. Should be done by the end of this coming weekend. Saturday night we went to Prime Quarter (a grill your own steak & fish joint) for my sister's birthday. It's the freshly divorced sister and she brought her new boyfriend. We had a nice time. Drank too much, but oh well.

Sunday we smoked fish at my other sister's house (my BIL has a nice Bradley smoker). We also pre-made & froze a bunch of dinners. We made full recipes of everything & split it in half. Especially with casseroles, lasagne, etc, Chris and I can't eat a whole one & leftovers get old after a few days. So this way, I made 2 & she made 2, yet we came home with 4 different meals. Nice to get the variety. And it only took about 30-45 minutes.

We bought a ton of foil pans at the dollar store & are going to try & make one meal (and split it in half) each week. Then when we see eachother next, we'll swap entrees. I think it's about $10/dish we prepare for chicken, ham, turkey type-meals. For hamburger based meals I'm sure it would be cheaper. And that was buying EVERYTHING needed (except for dry seasonings). Normally, I'd have a lot of the ingredients already in the house, but I went to hers & just hit the store for everything that morning.

I made:
Bruschetta chicken casserole
Ham & cheese puff

She made:
Hot chicken salad casserole
Turkey, veggie & wild rice slow cooker stew

I'm coming to your house for dinner.

Don't worry. I'll wrap a towel around myself by then...

Mmm. the food exchange idea is a good one! Several people I work with go every month to one of those places where you make your meals (they provide the recipes and the ingredients and the kitchen) then take them home in freezer containers for later use. It's called Dinner My Way or something like that.

Your sounds like a fun variation on that concept.

Yeah, MTW, it's based on that concept. We just like the idea of choosing our own recipes and sharing the foods for more variety. Since neither of us minds recipe hunting, grocery shopping, nor cleaning up our kitchen, this is also the more economical way.

Yummy! I'm very impressed Kim! I can't say I've ever planned ahead and pre-cooked a meal. Good for you.

Your post also made me wish I had a sister. :)

You have Honeycrisps???? I just read about them. Twice the price and reservations have to be taken. Evidently, added as one of the 25 "inventions" that have changed the world?

I've never tasted one. Colour me jellus.
