Move over Evan, I've got an ark to build.
The rivers haven't crested yet (will tomorrow), and our sump pump is going off every two minutes. Yesterday we were worried the motor burned out. I think we got home just on time. We put some fans on the motor and bailed out a lot of the water from the pit by hand. Somehow I got stuck with the job of haulilng buckets of water up from the basement. *holds aching back* So, I'm home today, watching the pump like a hawk.
BIL called last night. He was sitting at a restaurant bar patio overlooking the former Lake Delton. The entire lake spilled over and emptied into the Wisconsin River. Gone. That's where you saw a lot of footage of homes washing away on t.v.
In other related news (think religion, peeps), my MIL was in town and we had dinner last night. She actually grabbed our hand at the table and said grace outloud at the table. It took every ounce of my will to NOT yank my hand away. With my extra hand I drank my iced tea and looked around the restaurant while she prayed. Next time i'll be more prepared and just say, "I'll leave you alone while you say grace" and go to the bathroom to scream.

My thoughts are with you with the flooding situation. I hope it gets under control soon. *smooch*
Yikes!
I hope everything stays dry in the house for you.
Ack. *rubs Kim's back* I'm sorry.
You are a good DIL. Honestly. I have been in so many of those situations, and I just hold my head down or close my eyes - usually I've already eaten a few bites.
Good to hear you're stiff safe. I worried when seeing those houses floating.
I find myself in the same situation with my in-laws. I'm a non-practicing Catholic and my FIL makes sure he grabs my hand for grace. So I make a to do about crossing myself after it's over with with huge movements. They don't like Catholics or maybe it's the Catholic faith, you really can't tell. *grin
I keep thinking about you guys. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. *smooch*
How's the situation now? I've seen pictures on TV...
This morning things are better. Waters are receeding a bit around our area. I went to my dad's workplace in spring green yesterday. It's a mess. The whole "yard" of the lumber yard is flooded...can't get to any of the supplies. The parking lot is impassable and the road it's on is barely passable by large vehicles. There were delivery trucks sitting on the roadside trying to figure out what to do.
Chris bought a back up pump system, so now we are feeling better.
And the MIL praying thing...yeah, I can usually just bow my head in silence at home and be fine. But at a restaurant? Pray to yourself, MIL. And now that MIL is joining a chior in retirement, I'm sure we'll be forced to do s"inging grace" more often. I'll hold hands, but I refuse to sing.
LOL, Augie! I can just picture you being all animated.
I could have sworn I replied to this yesterday. *shrug*
I'm glad you're staying dry Kim. Scary stuff when houses start floating away. We had a wicked light show on Friday night. Thunder and lightning like crazy for about 2 hours. It was soooo loud! Lots of wind but no damage.
Stay safe Kim! *hugs*
Was that a pic of your BIL on MSN that I saw looking at what used to be Lake Delton?
This is one of those times that I am thankful we live on a hill. The driveway is a killer, but it is worth it. We had standing water in the prairie area, but now it is all gone.
I'm glad the river pretty much stayed out of your basement, Kim! I remembered you talking about being fairly close to it but I had no idea how much elevated over the flood plain you were.
I know it's sick - but I want to go see the muddy dregs of Lake Delton. I guess the lake is going to stay drained for quite a while. I had no idea that it was a dam lake; I thought it was a natural lake.
Lol at the MIL holding your hand & praying aloud, in a restaurant no less. If she escalates to singing prayers I think you should get to pick the song every other time. I know you could pick some good ones. :)
