My sobfest and more boring stuff

We had a really, really busy weekend. I carefully planned it so we'd have Monday at home to do some projects. I had a lot of fall planting to do (order from a seed catalog came in), canning, and some general cleaning (you may remember I was dedicated to getting those darn cabinet tops cleaned).

Well, BIL called Chris that morning and asked if we wanted to come over for dinner. The call came in right as I was prepping my OTCC entry for this week. I volunteered for OTCC this week because I knew I'd have time Monday night to take my time with dinner.

*cue record scratch and music stop*

Chris said "ok!" to the invitation. They live 45 minutes away, so this would be a significant time suck, and we'd been on the road all weekend. I broke down in tears and sobbed on and off for about an hour. I was angry and sad. Sometimes little things will be the straw.

So, my OTCC recipe became a rushed lunch, which means it isn't my finest work and there are few photos.

In other news, we got a really weird gift bag from MIL for our 10 year anniversary (which is tomorrow). Contents:

  • Two used "sauce dishes" still marked with the .50 price tag.
  • A 1991 published "Home Swapping" vacation book
  • Speed Racer children's party napkins

  • A "Special Olympics Torch Run sponsored by Carquest" hat for Chris

  • A homemade vest for me. *blink blink*

I brought the vest to work so my coworkers could laugh. Thanks to a webcam, so can you:

LMAO at the vest.

I'm sorry about the sobfest. I can totally relate. I wanted to cry when I had to go to fricking Lowe's last night to look at discounted chair cushions for the deck. That whole process just killed me.

I am currently trying to find 3 days that I can just take off and use the weekend to create a real vacation for myself. That is a source of tears for me right now as well.

LOL Kim. My MIL would happily wear that vest! Sorry your scheduled happy time was pre-empted with a random family event. Them's the hazards of families, I guess.

My MIL used to give weird shit "presents" like that for birthdays & Christmas and stuff. She did this for years, and we just smiled and said thank you and quietly tossed most of them out.

Then, when she hit about 85 years old she suddenly started giving away money! From a life of frugality she (and late FIL) had saved up a fair bit and didn't want give one cent to the government for inheritance tax or some "fancy" final health care thing - so she started giving to her kids big time. $1,000 here, $1,000 there. Last year on Christmas T and each of his many siblings got $10,000 each!

I still don't understand her thought process, but I guess she was giving to the drummer she could hear (to coin a stupid phrase) and frugally held onto her assets. We had no idea she had saved that much money in 60 years of frugal (miserly?) farm life. I am still amazed.

LOL Nice vest!

I can also relate on the sobfest. I seem to be having more of them lately, I'm blaming my old age.

Did you see in OT the idea of the Tour de Vest?

Hey, at least you remembered OTCC! That's something to be proud of right now. :)

Your MIL gives the craziest gifts. I've had a few sobfests lately, too.
