It was a busy Valentine's Day weekend!
-Friday night we went to a Badger hockey game. Chris's work partner was a high school hockey cheerleader (yes, apparently those exist), so at least she knew a little about hockey, unlike us. It was kind of fun. We hit some downtown bars we otherwise never get to, so that was a bonus.
-Saturday we were guilted into heading back into Madison again for the Garden Expo. Chris's mom was otherwise going to come and visit us on Sunday (um, No!). So we tooled around in a very crowded expo center, payed $14 plus $5 parking just to attend, and didn't really get much out of it. We then had lunch at a new restaurant in town, and it was good. You can get shots of hot sauce (of various styles), so we sampled a lot. Then Chris's mom and brother returned back north, and Chris and I stayed in Madison to do one of our favorite things...play trivia at BW3s on Valentine's Day (ok, we were a day off). We won six rounds against a pretty big field, so we were proud.
-Sunday we lounged all morning, had heart shaped cinnamon-pecan pancakes (well, I tried to make a heart shape, anyway), and I did a little homework. Chris did some homework on his own: mattress research. We ended up AGAIN going to Madison and purchased a new king sized mattress and bed (headboard/footboard...yes, we just bought bedroom furniture over a year ago, but we NEED a king sized bed), and an office chair. I'm thrilled! It won't be delivered for another week, though. It's a "hybrid" with double coils (these are individually wrapped), then a thick "memory foam" type layer (not just a topper, it's about six inches of the foam concoction).
Today? I must go pick out bedroom paint, as that never got done last time we moved around furniture.

Did you have a king-sized bed before? If not, you will love it; you'll feel so far away from each other at first! We have a California King bed which is a little bit narrower and longer. We feel like we're in a huge bed when we go on vacation and are in a regular king bed.
Agree with Puffy. I don't know how we ever lived without one. Well, except for the fact that one never would have fit at our old house. We have not had much luck with mattresses, but what we have works for now.
I used to enjoy our local hockey team/games. I didn't understand all of the rules, but I loved the fights.
I took Conner to Target on Sunday (yeah, I know) to get V-Day cards for Michael. I think Andy and Ellie had already been there. Ha ha ha. I still managed to find two, and Conner made it easy because he wanted a music card.
We went to BW3s two weeks ago (since we had a snow day the next day), and Michael, Conner and I came in 7th. Last week Michael went with the regular guys, and they won. Was yours the computer version or the kind like we had?
We are moving up from a Queen bed, Puffy, so yeah, it will be weird!
Our room is a little too small for all the furniture. It will fit fine with enough space to move around, but the scale will be a little off.
Boo, our trivia was the normal computer version. I think it's much easier. There was an article in the paper a few weeks ago about how team trivia tournaments (like the one we went to) are becoming insanely popular and packing the bars on odd nights of the week.
Some of the people at ours play both on the same night.
Oh, and the trivia chick does give hints on FB about the categories for halftime and the finale.
I forgot about the bedroom paint. What colors are you looking at? I can't even think about ours right now. Michael just finished the kitchen - not completely, but close enough. He has to pull and paint the baseboards around the cabinets/dishwasher and island, and he has to touch up some stuff, but it's pretty much done. I'm going to take pictures this weekend after I clean to post.
We are looking at a warm, dark mossy green. I took the Benjamin Moore paint suggestion from several peeps around here. I also had tan and blue paint chips, but Chris vetoed the tan and I can't find a blue that fits with my taste and style of decor. I think blues are easier when you have a cape cod style, etc.
We went from about 60 paint chips to six. Need to make a decision tonight. I'm a little worried about going too dark with a crowded room already, but we are both really drawn to the darker greens. Some of the colors we are looking at: Oak Grove, Pine Brook, Herb Garden, Avocado
If anyone has done any painting around the house with greens and has advice, please share.
I just painted the dining room Asparagus from Behr. Love it, but it's not a bedroom color. I had paint chips taped to the wall for almost a year, so I don't take color choices lightly. I hate painting and really do not want to put on a color that I hate so much I need to repaint in a month.
The bedrooms are next, but I am leaning more towards a yellow for the smallest one (it faces west so it gets no sunlight until late in the day). The other bedroom faces south and is bright most of the day. Not sure what color to do there, but I am going to check out Benjamin Moore in the greens you have listed because I love green.
My living room is painted a very dark, sprucy green with a lot of black in it - a very dark & funky color of green. I love it!
Like all dark colors you will likely need multiple coats to get coverage. BM should tint your primer to a dark tone very similar to your final color for no extra charge (most good paint sellers around here tint primer for free.)
And it is worth doing primer first because primer is usually cheaper than paint, you are going to need multiple coats anyway - so why not save on paint? - and if you have any issues about changing paint finishes (from flat to semi or vise-versa) or putting latex over oil-based (or vice-versa) then the best way to handle that transition is by using the correct primer formula.
Whee for new bedroom furniture!!
We just bought a bed too. Finally got rid of the futon frame. Don't laugh but it's the same frame I had about 20 years ago.
We have a box spring and mattress and it was finally time to grow up.
Ours is a queen because as we don't have the room for a king. *throws jealous eyeballs at Kim*
We painted our small bathroom a beautiful, rich sage green. Added cream coloured crown mouldings, which really lightened it up.
Your accessories can easily "unheavy" the room too. Dress your king bed in lighter tones. That will help.
Paint is done. Had to prime two walls yesterday, as only two of our bedroom walls had color on them (a midtone green, which was great for primer!). Painted all four walls the darker green this morning. The light in the bedroom was terrible, so I need to look for touch up spots.
I ended up going with the $25 can of Behr in Wilderness. The Benjamin Moore was $45/can, and I know I like Behr, so I went with the cheaper one. I'll try to take pictures later this week when everything is put back together.
