Spring Break Week

Sharp white cheddar and crackers with grapes this morning.

It's a chilly, rainy spring break week here. Boo hiss! I don't have class, which is nice, but I'm working most of the week. Yesterday I worked from home a little. The boys had to visit the vet. Taking two at a time is not fun. My hearts go out to mothers of small children trying to get in and out of non-automatic doors with children in tow. The boys were good, though.

I took a long walk in the afternoon. The sun was out for awhile, so I stopped and gazed at the creek that runs behind our house and along the road. It was quite serene.

I'm starting to read The Poisonwood Bible today. Ever read it? Thoughts?

Now, I must go book my Friday spa (ok, it's a beauty school) appointment!

Momma, TPB is a book that was an Oprah's Book Club selection awhile back. It was on the $1 shelf at the used bookstore, so I picked it up. Synopsis from Amazon:
In this risky but resoundingly successful novel, Kingsolver leaves the Southwest, the setting of most of her work (The Bean Trees; Animal Dreams) and follows an evangelical Baptist minister's family to the Congo in the late 1950s, entwining their fate with that of the country during three turbulent decades. Nathan Price's determination to convert the natives of the Congo to Christianity is, we gradually discover, both foolhardy and dangerous, unsanctioned by the church administration and doomed from the start by Nathan's self-righteousness. Fanatic and sanctimonious, Nathan is a domestic monster, too, a physically and emotionally abusive, misogynistic husband and father. He refuses to understand how his obsession with river baptism affronts the traditions of the villagers of Kalinga, and his stubborn concept of religious rectitude brings misery and destruction to all...

I hope it rains all week. And I hope the last page of your book is missing. *huff*

Poo for my birthday being on Good Friday.

My masseuse is gone, the beauty school isn't taking appointments and another spa doesn't have any openings. Feh. I do have one more option for a pedicure. Not my #1 choice (I was dying for a facial), but a pedicure will do.

With non-automatic doors it is harder for your kids to just dash away. I prefer them with small children.

I have never read the Poisonwood Bible, probably because it was an Oprah selection. I just finished The Alexandra Link by Steven Barry.

What are you doing/having done for your spa day?

I've read The Poisonwood Bible. I liked it, but I find that I tend to be drawn to books that have some sort of journey in them. This is a fairly recent realization, actually. I don't know if it's the traveler in me that likes them, or if I just like the device of a journey in telling a story.

I have also liked Barbara Kingsolver's other stuff. (I've read The Bean Trees and the other one that goes along with The Bean Trees that I can't rememeber the title of right now.)

Let me know what you think of TPB. I read it a few years ago (was stuck in Orlando and saw it at the airport and bought it.)

Ah, the fabulosity of having time off to just wander and reflect.

The fabulosity of a spa day, should never be overshadowed by the fact that its students. They probably try extra hard to do a good job.

The fabulosity of cheese. Mmmmmm

*giggle* Weltek says she has no class.

Wait, she also said, "Boo hiss."

Good for you for having spa time planned. I am taking this Friday and next Monday off in order to get some stuff done around the house without interruption. I think I've got a few gift cards left for the spa. Perhaps I should schedule one of those days as well.

I have not done much of any reading lately. And I miss it. The word "bible" makes me thing religion. I'm not sure about another religion book. *grin* Perhaps I will have to run over to Barnes & Noble on Friday as well.
